That Brick in a sock has been pretty useful.
Compared to the fireballs?
The fireballs only work until we run out if spells for the day, though.

I just like how useful the fireballs were. If we upgrade that, it will have more of an effect, as being good with BiaS means taking out one guy faster, and the fireballs will get bigger, and fire faster etc.

What if we're in a very small room?

Or have allies in the fray?

I think we could decrease the size of the fireballs, as it would be more control over the magic you put in it.

Except for the style of fireball that is the tiny baseball of flaming painfulness and HP-losing, fireball in small rooms is generally a terrible idea. And if the room is small enough we can just thwack them over the head.

I was thinking what you said. You know, itty bitty fireballs.

Can't we just put 2 skill points in nat critting rolls?

/silly

I'd go for fireballs though. We 're not Rincewind anyway, more the opposite of him.

We're somehow very similair to Rincewind, but not him. (Points to thread title. Clearly states not Rincewind)

I know the discworld verse, and we're not Rincewind. Rincewind tends to do a lot more running, and is not in anyway competent to do any magic. (Points to exploded boat.). While the character might have been intended as Rincewind, we're clearly not so similair anymore.

This is what I was trying to point out.

Stop saying obvious things or I will make you an admiral.

You are not Rincewind. You have no idea who Rincewind is, in fact, since you have never met him, but the voices in your head seem to be in disagreement over exactly how much you are not like him. Someday, you think to yourself, you must meet this Rincewind fellow.

Your memory flashes back to your days as an apprentice wizard, and listening to the lectures of the many master wizards. One in particular, an old cheerful fellow, had animated and imbued sentience in fire to create a cute little hummingbird he named after his ex-wife. It mostly emitted light and hummed sweet songs (clearly, he didn't know all that much about hummingbirds).  One fine day, a visiting circus accidentally let an untrained direwolf out of its cage. The particular master simply smiled and sent his hummingbird spirit straight for the rampaging creature. You all held your breath, but it brightened in intensity and flew straight THROUGH the creature, leaving a smoking hole from chest to backside. Later that day, he explained to you - and the class - that any idiot could set something on fire. It didn't take too much effort. What DID take effort was calming the passion of your flames and exerting your willpower to show not your mastery, but your unity with the element.

The rest of the lesson was spent trying to color your fireballs and put out the flames cheerfully spreading everywhere.

Come to think of it, he died from accidental spontaneous combustion while laughing at a joke... heh. It's all fun and games until the alcohol catches on fire. You're... honestly not quite sure why it is you remembered this all of a sudden, but nonetheless, you feel as though you have learned something about the nature of fireballs - and yourself.

Anyway, it's the day. You can talk to people, do work, or pretty much just laze back and read your book. The captain did, at one point, as you to make wind if it was needed, but it's pretty clearly not needed given the oarsmen. Your new ship is not moving quite as fast as it did before, and still reeks of sweat, fear, and bodily fluids, but it's moving.

General options?
1. Read your book and study it in hopes of skill gain
2. Go talk to Captain Jones
3. Go talk to Chief Malu
4. Take a shift on the oars
5. Clean
6. Whatever it is the voices in your head tell you that isn't any of the above options.

[EDIT: Yes, I love Jim Butcher, why did you ask?]

We've done enough work for the moment. Let us read a book.

I'd say talk to the Cap'n. See how the ship is doing.

You flip a coin over it. Heads, you talk to the Captain; Tails, you read.

Even heads odd tails.

[Roll(1d4)+0:
1,+0
Total:1]

You proceed to spend the rest of the day reading your book, starting with the section on Diplomacy. You find several of the notes helpful, and feel more skilled. Also, you have a few more ideas about alchemy, but really lack the proper ingredients for anything aside from a sleep potion that you do not have the ingredients for. The ship makes it to the shore without much further ado, aside from an incident where a former pirate turned out to be hiding among the slaves and killed a few with a Knife before being torn apart.

You disembark and cheerfully wave goodbye to the crew and freedmen, most of whom elect to remain aboard the ship as free sailors and fighters. The rest are given a share of the treasure (obviously, less than yours) and left to find their own fortunes.

Of course, this IS the best place for them - The City of Freeport, once called the City of Free Men, rose from a poor little port town of less than two hundred citizens with a freshwater spring to the bustling trade city full of canals and locks that it is today. Over its five-hundred year history, Freeport steadily grew, expanding outwards and taking control of the desert surrounding it as it did.

You mull over your information and look around the city. Aside from "Find a moneychanger" or "Think more about the city and its surroundings for no apparent reason" you don't particularly have any ideas, and turn to the voices in your head for inspiration.

You also note that using the highest "dry" setting on your cloak causes your skin to get really cold. This cloak is more useful than you would have expected, even though you look kind of silly muttering under your breath every few minutes.
