Like... many buildings, big. Weak in the eyes, and certain parts of the underbelly. And also the nose and inside of the mouth. By then it's too late, but you might get it in the brain."

"Are you actually going to help me? Beside, you know, everything you told me?"

"Well, that depends. Now, I could just sit here, get drunk, and not fight a dragon. And honestly, that sounds like a great idea with far less danger of being set on fire. I am... rather fond of not being on fire. I've already told you how I'll help you - there is a word of great power and importance to me that will have great effects. So tell me, protagonist. Why, exactly, should I help you? You bought me alcohol, so I will answer whatever questions you have for me, but past that...."

He finishes his wine and stares at you, no longer smiling.

"I was wondering why you were helping us in the first place, like if you held a grudge against the dragon, or if you worked for someone who did."

"Why? That's a good question, and one I'm not going to answer. Aside from this, of course - we're on the same side. The hand of fate has placed the two knights together for a reason. Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. I cannot answer that question because I don't know the answer. You smell of Plot and Magic. For whatever reason, I find myself liking you. Perhaps your voice is similar to one I heard as a child."

He keeps staring at you, and you feel kind of uncomfortable with the schooled blank look on his face. It's pretty obvious he's running out of patience.

"It is certainly a name that you are calling me. Generally speaking, I don't give out my name to people... eh. Wes Spring shall do nicely. Now... Three questions. Then I thank you for the drinks, leave this fine establishment, wander around until I find trouble, kill it, and... I dunno from there. Find a brothel, perhaps. Unless you happen to give me a good reason to go along with you that isn't money. I can certainly point you at a mercenary if you truly are foolish enough to believe he won't just betray you to the dragon."

Wes grins again, showing off those big SHINY teeth, then taps his foot against the ground hard enough to send vibrations up the table as he drinks his wine straight from the bottle.

"Because of what would happen if I fail? pretty sure it's in your best interests to make sure that happens. You know, the whole 'no world left to enjoy' type of deal or some such."

You consider mentioning loot, but then you look at the incredibly detailed chess piece. It seems very lifelike. You try to pick it up, and the piece is a LOT heavier than you would have expected, and those gemstones set perfectly in the places of eyes don't look like semi-precious stones to your untrained eye. Somehow or another, you get the impression that Wes Spring could lose everything you own at poker, and still like the person who he lost it to.

Well. Scratch that idea. You point out the consequences.

"We mortals all have to die sometime. If I had to choose my way of going out, being an accidental casualty of the whole universe imploding is actually a LOT higher up on my list of ways to die than being burned to death. Besides, then I won't be dying alone. Either of these two options become a lot more probable following a protagonist around."

He coughs.

"Please. Really, I'm telling you."

"So, why are you helping me in the first place?"

"It'll be one hell of a trip?"

"Didn't you already ask that? Same side. I like the sound of your voice. Fate put you here. And, poor wizard that I am, I conceived that you also happen to be here for a reason."

He's definitely impatient now, as can be told from his foot beating getting faster and his eyebrow raising.

"I'm certain it most certainly will be a trip, but so is eating morning glory seeds. Two questions. I honestly have told you the exact and specific word that WILL get me to join you instead of just following you and picking at the remains. Someone once told me that wizards are smart. Please think about it. I'm sure you'll figure it out."

He stares at you, mostly with an "are you seriously not picking up on my hint" face. It kind of reminds you of a wizard girl you used to know, actually.

You think about it. From what you can gather, the whole "SHINY" thing, the bright red hair, the fact that he claims to be drunk but is still perfectly lucid, the inability to just answer a straight-up question, and his general dickish attitude shows that Wes is obviously part faerie. Probably an important one, given the whole "high lord" and "younger heir" comment, so... half-fey, at least, if not more.

If only you could remember more about fey society and manners...
