Let's Play Tropico 4 Modern Times! Part 0: Revolution!Tropicans, the time of change is upon us! We the people could stand the dictator Flores no longer and have cast him out! He has fled to America, the nation which has financed his brutal reign for all these years.
*cheers urupt from the crowd, but they are waved to silence by the man making the speech, when silence is achieved he continues*
And yet, peace is not yet upon us! Now without a common cause, those who led the fight to liberate us are on the brink of fighting each other. We the Tropican people must choose one among them and give them absolute power, at least until the risk of a second civil war has passed.
Of course, I do not expect you to make this decision without being properly informed. Here are dossiers giving details on all of the different men among the movement who we could back to be our rulers.
Most of you know Father Buendia from one place or another. Even during the period of religious repression under Flores, he practised underground, baptising babies, marrying couples, and giving fiery sermons on how all of us were going to hell. During the revolution it was his sermons that gave people the courage to throw themselves at Flores's better armed and better trained force. He pledges that if he is put into power he will immediatly legalize open practice of Catholicism and begin the important process of saving all of our souls from eternal damnation.
Opposing Father Buendia is Comrade Sergei. He grew up to a humble family of miners in rural Tropico and has learned the family trade well. During the revolution Sergei led the miners in a fight against the tyrannical overseers, defeating them by luring them into the mines, then causing a devestating cavein. Sergei pledges to bring justice for the working peoples of Tropico through the utopia of Communism, giving equal pay, oppurtunity, healthcare and housing for all. He also pledges to build up strong mining and rum distilling industries to provide jobs for the people...why he choose those two industries is a mystery to me...
Next up we have our...good friend Tony Valisi. Tony is a...self-made man whose...business associates provided us with the arms we needed to storm Flores's palace and rout his forces once and for all. Now that the war is over they want payment for their services. If we grant him dictator powers, not only will this placate a possible danger to Tropico, but we will have a ruler who knows how to rule with a firm hand. Tony says that if we choose him, he will make us a "goddamn lotta greenbacks." I assume that's Gringo for he'll get our destroyed economy back on it's feet...with any means neccesary. We'll just have to be careful he doesn't spirit all the profits away for himself...
Commander Antigua was the man behind the revolution. It was he who took his 5 man Revolutionary Guard off into the jungle and fought the guerrila campaign that started our path towards freedom. It is said that Antigua's has survived 300 counts on his life...personally I think that estimate is a little low. As a people we certainly owe this man a great debt. However, he may not be suited to the task of ruling our war-weary island. He pledges to close our borders, build our military and restore order with any means neccesary...is another tyrant a neccesary evil in this time of strife?
Lastly we have a bit of an oddball canidate...Mountaindew H. Camacho. A professional wrestler before the revolution, he amused Flores and his cronies. However when the people came to knock on Flores's palace gates, it was Mr. Camacho that singlehandedly knocked out the entire gatehouse guard and unlocked the gates to the revolutionaries. As such he's become almost a cult figure to the people. Undoubtably if he was placed in charge, order would be restored but his leadership credentials are quite questionable...He pledges to build lots of statues of himself and show everone a good time...Chances are that if he is chosen as our leader, a second revolution will follow soon, as people realize that serious leadership is needed, not a meglomaniac fool.
I leave the choice to you Tropicans. But decide quickly, before the last buildings on the island are burned by the ravages of war!
