I never expected to actually learn how to play the guitar from a video game.

That one shocked me.
Rocksmith?

I never expected to become a libertarian, and then a liberal after that.

I never expected to become a loner cynic, and then a loner optimist after that.

I never expected that my social abnormality would suddenly shift from making most people in my life hate me irrationally to making most people in my life see me as unrealistically intelligent and awesome. In all honesty, it's not that great of a change either. It's still an untrue perception, even if it is a positive one now.

I never expected seeing the artistic value of music and theater.

I never expected that I'd grow to hate cops as much as I do.

I never expected to be naturally skilled at public speaking.

I never expected to go from childhood proactiveness to becoming a successful procrastinator who waits until the eleventh hour on life-altering subjects, only to (so far) successfully pull them off. I also never expected how unhappy people become when I do this, even if they themselves are unaffected.

Neat! I am...not even close to being able to do that. It doesn't help that my brother's Xbox died again.

I never would have expected that under my care, 4 Xbox 360s and a PSP would have died horrible deaths.

I never expected I'd meet an old friend of mine again, and that we'd become even better friends then we had been years ago, because of how we've both grown as people.  And how our families have become great friends too, because of how we've all become much better off in life (not necessarily financially, but I would say both our families are happier than we've ever been).  :)
I also really didn't expect that literally half of us would have developed some form of mental illness in the past few years.

I never expected to fail at so many things. I tried going to school for engineering, physics, and computer science only to have the math crush me out of all of them. Now I'm going for art and moving to Montreal. I at least know I'm pretty good at art already. I should have realized this earlier. Would have saved me so much time and money.

Speaking of which, I never expected to be paid to do art. I'm not being paid much, but it's still a good feeling.

I never expected I'd ever stop believing in God.

I never expected I'd be the one to inherit my grandparents' fully-paid house.  I expected my aunt to but she got her own, and my dad has financial issues that would make it far better for him if I took the house and he moved in.

I never expected I'd start watching television regularly. I never expected to get fat, and then I never expected to get thin. I never expected I would be able to grow facial hair everywhere except the front of my chin. I never expected... These are all pretty boring... Um...

I never expected this thread to upset me so much, seeing how all you people have lives:-[

I've never expected that I would become a communist. I used to have liberal political views just a year ago.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

I honestly never expected to become very sociable again after my horrid run through elementary school (read: years of bullying, i became rather paranoid and reclusive for a time). Meeting the right people can do a lot to help, i s'pose. I'm still introverted by nature, but everyone i see on a daily basis are people i get along with quite well. c: (and now i respond to unknown people with a positive attitude, whereas i'd previously be very cautious)

I also never expected to become any good at spriting/pixel art/anything arty. It started out as a necessity in making mods for Cortex Command, where i was primarily interested in the coding. Since i constantly caught flak for making horrid sprites, and since there are a lot of talented spriters in that community, i was eventually poked in the right direction. Ever since that point, i've progressed ever-so-slowly on my own, and now i can actually see what my things are supposed to be. On a related note, i never expected my deviantART page to reach over 7000 pageviews.

also i never expected my stubble to become SO ABRASIVE i mean holy shit man i could carve wood with this chin
