C,H and S on the left side of the screen
« on: May 21, 2012, 12:21:47 pm »

Stupid question, most probably, but the wiki doesn't have anything about this. What do those letters mean?

they popup when there are new combat reports (think "r" screen)

C=combat
H=hunting
S=sparring

It's generally safe to ignore sparring and hunting reports, whereas combat reports should be quickly investigated.

It's also really handy when you deal with waterfalls et al and get distracted by something else. In the sense that you immediately know when a dorf's gone down the drain...

Keep any livestock separated to keep combat message spam from being cluttered by chickens occasionally pecking at one another.

Hunting and Sparring reports are a good though, though.

C = cauterized, that means your dwarves have had their limbs melted of.

H = hauling,  usually a lot of cancellation spam

S = Sexytiem, that's where the baby reports go.

C also applies to non-combat injuries: vomiting, injuries from falling, sometimes info about a collapse (though you'll probably already know). Besides, If you're waiting for something, sometimes hunting info is useful!
