I just went through the most intense 20 minutes of my time in DayZ. I was traveling with a survivor group I recently joined, about 7 of us heading to the Balota airfield to regroup with 3 stragglers. Morale was high, seeing that we thought no one would engage a big group like this even if it was very dark. We approached the airfield, and suddenly in a matter of minutes three of our guys were shot down by sniper fire. We didn't take it very seriously, and assumed it was just the three of them acting stupid and got shot by a newbie bandit with a CZ. We were dead wrong.

6 of us advanced forward, while I covered the airfield with my sniper rifle. A few minutes of crawling around later, a plume of dirt shot out in front of me after I heard a crack of thunder. I realized that it must of been a .50 Caliber gunshot, and suddenly more shots flew past my head. I quickly crawled behind a tree as more bullets whizzed past my head. I heard some panic over teamspeak, and three guys died in a matter of minutes from another sniper positioned somewhere else, quickly after I was shot in the head.

I congratulated the sniper over global chat, as it was intense as fuck and I was clearly shaking from the panic over teamspeak. He thanked me and said it was easy since he had a thermal scope on his rifle. Our ten men group was decimated, with only two or three survivors making it. All of it done by two well equipped snipers.

First time I finally managed to play. This game is brutal and it's made worse by not knowing the controls. Also the game being realtime is a terrible idea when the only server people can get into is night-time. It just turns into a clusterfuck of zombie hordes you can't see.

So I updated to the latest version of DayZ and now all ther servers are either full or return an error saying that the server is running the wrong version of the server -side application and I cannot play on the server.

I like playing this game but I fucking hate all the stupid bullshit surrounding it. Fifteen minute waits for respawn, servers that are supposedly in my local area that are pitch fucking black at noon, and now this shit.

Even at the lowest graphics settings, one server I was in had low FPS.

Yeah servers are being completely dark here even at mid day. I thought its tied to the real world time.

It's most likely due to the recent patch, rocket tends to mess up FPS occasionally.

It takes a strangely long amount of time for me to join. Maybe I just haven't played multiplayer games in a long time :P

Started today with no ammo, so I looked up the map with locations and hoofed it to the nearest hunting stand. Got their and found a not Len eenfield but the other non scoped rifle, a hunting knife and matches. YAY! I also found binoculars in the nearby town, so now I expect when I login tomorrow I'll get sniped when I enter a town. Dieing is fun!

I highly suggest to newbies and practically anyone to just book it further north once you think you have enough food and drink. Looting there is easy once you get far enough out, and you'll meet very few people.

I stay to the north but I tend to have a false sense of security once I get far away enough from the coast. I catch myself sprinting into towns without checking to see if anyone else is moving in and things like that.

I spawned near Elektro today. Spent a few minutes seeing if I could find myself a bigger bag, but couldn't, so I gave up and started trekking north. I've got enough food to tide me over and you can fill water bottles in lakes, so I should be fine. i'm heading more or less to Berezino, as I hear it tends to be a bit safer from nonconsensual PVP than Chernogorsk and Elektrozavodsk.

I got sniped near Balota's airstrip today. I came back and couldn't find the guy so I kept searching along with Slag. He found an AKM in the ATC while I was looking around the forest/medical military camp a good distance away from the hangars. Then I hear a bunch of gunshots and Slag told me he was killed by zombies. I kept searching and found nothing useful, then Slag left the game and I went with him.
