For other people, yeah, its mostly avatars. A very few people have their own voices - Truean, Vector, Aqizzar, Freeformschooler.

I would have an avatar just this once if you can make a lupine penguin with spectacles and a top hat. I am not very sure how that would work.

Aha, so this is the source of Penguin Trend Redux. Sad I missed this thread so far, but it's been a fun read.

Most often, I just pair people with their avatars, unless they've shared a photo I've seen (Aqizzar, Toony, Barbarossa, Japa, Akigagak, Vector, Deon, etc.), in which case I think of that instead. Janet will forever be a Tohou, Truean is a cat in a pink scarf, Darvi will be the Darvitar, etc.

Even when I've heard people here speak I rarely do specific text-voices for posts, which is a bit odd seeing how I do it whenever I read letters or notes written by people I've known in-person. Instead I use my thinking voice, which is more or less the voice I had as a kid; a medium-high pitched androgynous tone that defaults to soft-spoken, UNLESS THERE ARE ALL CAPS WHICH RESULTS IN MENTAL SHOUTING.
