OH yeah, lets try to get a discussion happening. How would you guys like to see the higher tiers of research be unlocked? Random chance through missions seems like it could end up screwing someone over who wanted a specific unlock. My current idea is at a certain time everyone gets access to a mission for each field of the next tier. Then you pick which one you want to get, go on the mission. Success on the mission would influence your starting level of that tech (to a maximum of proly 5 and the unlock).
You'd then be unable to go searching for the others, giving the potential for trade between people.

keeps it balanced, and ensures most select atleast one of them. I mean, it prevents EVERYONE getting Robotics only, for instance. :P
