Bucket-Filling a pool
« on: April 17, 2012, 08:13:43 pm »

How does one indicate the creation and filling of a pool of water with buckets? I remember reading that it was possible, just don't remember how. I want to create a well in my underground fortress with it.
Edit: (this should probably be in gameplay, my bad)
Edit2: Thanks people.

go into the zone submenu (hotkey i) then make a zone and designate it to be a pit/pond (hotkey p) and edit the info on it (hotkey P) then toggle it to be a pond by pressing f

keep in mind if the pond is of decent size it may evaporate before you can fill it up much at all, i suggest slowly digging channels as it fills up to carry more or a couple z levels
btw this is an easy way for getting mud on stone for farming but i don't think you can declare a pond that isn't a z level off

no idea if this isn't the right forum for this but... goodluck in your never ending quest for !FUN!

I have a macro set up to designate 5 pond zones which are 3x3 each.  This is because one zone will incur one bucketeer.  That's one dwarf going to fill water and dump it.  If you want more than one dwarf on the job, you need multiple bucket zones.

I'v had like 20 dwarves on one zone, I think your doing it wrong.

I've had 60 (military bucket course ftw)

I almost ran out of buckets

Was this very recently?  Last bucketeering I did was .25 and it functioned at 1 per zone.

Currently, no matter how large the designated pond area, only one dwarf at a time will try to fill the pond. In order to fill a large area quickly, it is necessary to designate multiple smaller pond zones (or several zones overlapping the same area).

That's the issue.  So, has this been altered?  Will multiple dwarves attend to one single zone?

...and you used more than one of them?  We seem to have a communication issue here where you claim I'm doing it wrong while you do the exact same thing.

So you had a 14x14 square with zones all around the outside for each dwarf to have his own 1x1 zone?

???

Anyways, I think I'll just dig around and get pics if I have to :P

I covered the edges of a pool I made in 1x1 pond designations, which covered two rows of 28 tiles :/

So I guess it's just me being unintelligible b:

How such a simple thing can prove to be so easy to miscommunicate truly beggars belief. Humans have such a fascinating way of making everything needlessly complicated.

It makes me want to remove your brains just to compare the subtle differences, how tangential thoughts form, the threads stray and become intertwined, like so many spiders webs competing for space and losing their semblance of delicacy, becoming nothing but an obfuscating veil. But alas, cutting you up would not allow me to solve anything and I would remain as ignorant as ever to these things.
