Stations aren't meant to be that strict, it's a point they have to be near. And how tentative they'll be about the station is based on their personality.

And he might have not even seen the goblin, be the time you saw the goblin. The barricade, to my knowledge does hamper vision.

Actually setting a kill order does even more nothing.  I didn't know proximity to a point was variable though, and based on personality.  Makes sense i think.

The biggest issue I run into is troops not wearing shoes or socks but that can be fixed by modifying uniforms, it can still be very annoying.

im so tired of the bolt-equipping and targeting issues.  ive got 4 tasty goblin targets just milling around my bowmen platforms.  had to disband the squad to get them to rearrange equipment and get bolts, then they wont attack.  one just went to sleep.

Just have the military there own mini-fort, give each of your people brewer, farmer, etc. Have them unable to visit the main fort. Bam, they never get lazy.

It has been my experience that when someone begins with "i don't mean to be a bitch" one can Infer that "But I am going to be anyway" Is implicitly Implied.

that being said the majority of these "Bugs" seem to be the direct result of the player expecting their dorfs to be smarter than they actually are. (and also because the game doesn't Force the player to use the "correct" method for these things by default.)
 
having some personal experience with dwarves becoming stuck constantly picking up and droping equipment. I've found that the cause seems to be assigning them to wear equipment over their civilian clothes rather than using replace civilian clothing.
this of course causes them to pick up a breastplate an drop their Vest(used as an example the actual Items causing this event vary from case to case and could be anything causing a clothing mismatch.) at which point they realize "hey I don't have a vest so they pick up the vest and drop the breastplate then realize "I need a breastplate....."

This may seem like a bug when in fact the problem steams from the players bad decision to allow the dwarf to choose its own clothing. (Yes I am saying dwarves are Too stupid to dress themselves properly. )
