Mesk looks over Lars' shoulder and scans the datapad.
"Perhaps he went insane from the isolation, wandered out and never returned?  Or maybe there's something past the perimeter... something that affected his mind."
Pausing for a moment, he continues.
"You know, I wouldn't be surprised if these anomalous planets turn out to be intelligent in some capacity."

((Soon now))
Continue back and report findings then get medically checked, fuel up the jetbike and if able take a volunteer and show them the blue thing.

Missed me.
Vich takes up his digital version of HMRC Pantheon book, and searches it for a god of diplomacy. After that, he searches for a god of spies, and a god of deceit. He notes all the gods that fit the description, and reads the first entry he found that matches.

((For how to count up the voting, I originally planned to go with the Australian system I outlined in my original post where I described the rules for the voting, but since people only gave three choices, it's kind of hard to get a majority. So I suggest checking first if it works, and if it doesn't, probably do it the simplest way possible.))

After Vich retroactivelly completed the last turns action, he got up, and joined the group of people gathered around Lars and his datapad.

"I don't think it was his memory. Or anything wrong with him, for that matter.

Honestly, I always doubted Steve's words that HMRC Team could build a base anywhere, much less here. This base was probably built by the specialists Steve and other HMRC ships keep on the board. It may even have been lowered as already completed boxes, and simply joined together by the professionals. After that, they left the planetoid, and dropped the convicts in. I don't know why they would tell them, or us, that the base was made by the team before. Maybe to scare some caution into us. Well, it's either that, or the planetoid is traveling through time. I don't have any other ideas for now, maybe later."

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Vich, Relativity is weird like that. Steve said these planetoids have been known to execute jumps, and anything that's jumping is dropped out of sync with the universe for the duration, allowing massive distances to be covered in very little subjective time, but the exact same objective time.

So really, one could say that by jumping, you are time travelling, but it only goes forward.

My point was that this base might just be quite a lot older than you think, if this planetoid has jumped.

And considering that an HMRC team is only now being deployed to it, I consider that a distinct possibility.

"So you're saying this base could have been around since before we were born? And that the HMRC has only just re-discovered it? If that's so, what the hell is in that food for it to have been good all this time?"

Take my exosuit, my laser and a few sampling boxes. If I can dig deep and take good samples with my robo-hands, then take a couple of ground samples from near the base and a couple of ground samples from the edge of the crater and label them accordingly. Else use my laser to take the samples.

See if the shuttle we arrived in can easily be refueled and if it can be put in the garage.

If at any time I see Michael Alexander trying to take a rocket bike, stop him and tell him that he can't take a bike until the team leader gives him permission. If I see him returning and he's not in a good condition, help him get to the medbay.

"The idea is that not much time would have passed on this base relative to the rest of the universe. So the food is fine because it didn't have the subjective time to get bad.

But Simus, I just don't think that's what happened. Steve seemed to know what to expect inside, and what the base would look like. So the base isn't just "rediscovered". We're simply the second team inside. Whether it made, or didn't make any time jumps, I don't really see how it helps us understand why the previous team didn't think they were the ones who built the base.

And when I mentioned time travel, I wasn't really serious. I meant mostly that we might actually have come before these people, and are right now involved in a time paradox. Maybe we'll even get to be the people to build the base! Take it as a bad joke."

"Hey Miyamoto. I checked out the vehicles and it seems to be a bit difficult for me to use them for transport. That means that I won't be of much use in longer distance explorations, unless we use the shuttle we came in, which might be a bit wasteful. I can of course do some exploration on foot. I don't need food and stuff like that anyway."

((I was doodling some maps in GIMP while thinking of possible 3-team expeditions and I thought I'd share.

Spoiler: Touchup (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Border patrol (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Maximum coverage (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Border trip (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Medium expedition (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Small expedition (click to show/hide)

The longer expeditions can be supplied by a team of robots/exoskeletons by using the manual powered 4 wheeler or even the shuttles/bikes in emergencies. If those expeditions are just for scouting, they can be completed faster by using minishuttles. However minishuttles are riskier, since you have less time to detect anomalies and stop in time. It is my opinion that minishuttles should only be used on routes that have been determined to be safe.

Anyway, just a thought.))
