It has occured to me that Weeping Angels may be possible in a more perfect way in the next version, due to vision arc changes.

I have realized recently in my DFHack experiments that it may be possible to create a creature that freezes if it's being watched by anyone.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And that can move when it's not being watched.

That second bit is problematic.

On the other han, it would explain why they're so fast.

Their ability to eat someone's future and transmit themselves through media suggests that they operate outside the normal flow of time.

Problematic? I call it perfect. Imagine the horror of being attacked by creatures that breaks the normal DF flow of time.

It's game-breaking and imbalanced. I will not take away from players the ability to take a break from the game without losing. Plus, I don't want to make the mod dependent upon DFhack, because many people are unable to run it.

Makes sense, that's fine.

However, I do make an SCP mod, hehe.

This makes sense, such thing belong more on a lovercraftian horror where you are expected to lose in an unfair manner.

Not really, it's just that allowing them to move while paused is unfair. Having the player loose in an unfair manner is frustrating and not fun, and taking away pausing from such a time-intensive game as DF is a real dick move. This isn't dark souls, it's not a real-time action game. People have a right to go to the bathroom. Or, you know, go outside.

Although, if the angels only attacked when they got 'hungry', became hungry based on in-game time, and could still become frozen if they crossed the viewfield of a paused dwarf (or the player) then the chances of them actually managing to kill anyone while paused would be virtually zero.  It would really just be more for the creepiness factor.

Anyway, I didn't say it would be a GOOD idea, just that it's possible.  But if you want a dfhack-free mod, I can certainly hear the reasoning behind that.

So, now I have three versions of DF on my computer. Doctor Who DF, Vanilla DF, and DF with a tileset for my little brother.

I wonder if adding in Timelords themselves would be possible?

I don't think I could do them justice. Maybe I could make them available for outsider adventurer play, since there wouldn't be too much unique about them in the DF setting without their technology (since it's impossible to replicate in DF). Actual regeneration would require DFhack, as there would be no way to permanently change their features repeatedly without it.
