Lodom raised his head sharply. The stork reacted by raising its head and taking a short step back. Lodom stared at it for a moment before opening his bag and pulling out a fish. The stork jumped forward quickly, snatching the fish out of his hand and scratching his wrist.
"Ey, you dumb ol' bird..." Lodom muttered as the stork swallowed the fish and began to calm down. From somewhere in the fortress came a faint rumbling. No doubt another siege suffering repeating spikes, or another magma forge suffering cataclysmic explosion.
"Yeah, that's right..." Lodom reached out to stroke his palm over the stork's beak as the large bird nuzzled into his touch. The noise grew a bit louder, perhaps sudden flooding, or cave-in construction methods were in play. Not that it was his concern. He had his task and it wasn't his task to worry about what the masons were doing.
"Bwah!" The bird stood upright and looked about calmly. Lodom smiled and nodded just before the doorway exploded open, slamming the +iron door+ into the wall hard enough to send stone chips flying as Bromek charged in. A stampeding mass of muscle and fat, the legendary hunter tore across the room as if HFS itself was behind him. His furious gait managed to hide the motion of his arm as his crossbow swung around and one slick shot zipped across the remaining distance and stuck in the stork's abdomen.
"Bromek!" Lodom shouted.
"It bit ye!" Bromek declared, staring wide-eyed and intense at the trainer, "I saw it, I know it! It bit ye, it did! It did!"
Lodom took a step back, the animated kinsmen waving his crossbow around as he continued to shout and grabbed the stork by the neck, dragging the corpse along behind him, "I know it bit ye! Is wild, cannae' trust the animals. Can't! It bit ye!"
"...ok." Lodom took another step back and simply stared as Bromek shambled out of the room leaving a smear of blood leading down the hallway and towards the butcher's shop.
