Did I miss it, or has someone pointed out the obvious yet? Darvi came close, but let's put this less punnily.

In God We Trust is on US money because, to Americans, money is God.

We should go back to Out of Many, One to get rid of the idolatry and heresy, I say. Decent and faithful Christians should be up in arms over the promotion of money to the level of godhood, but somehow shameful hedonists have corrupted Christian words in order to hide their own sin.

But yeah, to the folks asking about annoyance pre-petition, that motto's bugged me for well over a decade now, ever since I really noticed it. It be nice if it went back to E Pluribus Unum.

You know very well that isn't true.

But for all I know Americans actually care about what's on your money and non-theists actually feel insulted by their cash/government.
Frankly, it's a bit hard not to be when a very large portion of politicians are constantly citing how religious they are.  It's also a bit worrying when people say they make policy decisions because Jesus or God told them to.

The motto on the money is just a minor thing, but it's wrong and it should be fixed.

The reason this is is because at one point a large group of people decided to lump all of the theists under an umbrella in order to get things passed. Originally it was social suicide to tell your religion as a politician. When you did that you cut yourself off from every other belief. Now it's the red team and the blue team. The saving grace is is that with the advent of the internet and other communication forms and new curriculums Atheists (agnostics included) has risen from 6% in America to 12-20% (depending on where you look) in only 10 years. Huuuuge leap.

Strangely, Gallup's polling history shows that the 6-7% figure actually remained static from 1940 (when they first asked it) to 1990 or so.

Again, it's all where you look. Plus it was only really the last 10 years give or take that it started to jump.

Exactly.  Atheists are actually one of the largest minorities in the United States.  We're just too quiet about it.  That's why stuff like this matters I think.  Imagine if the motto was "in Lord Jesus Christ we trust".  That's would be just as exclusionary and offensive to Jews and Muslims as "in God we trust" is to atheists.

Next petition: Illegalise religious symbols and holidays! Churchs illegalised and converted to state owned disco clubs!

But seriously, why all this fly-fucking? I mean, a little religion and colour to things dosent hurt :P
The "first" Americans were most likely some sort of Christians anyway.

As it is a violation of the US Constitution to have religion in government, it very well does hurt.

Perhaps you missed the memo, but the US is a secular state. The religious affiliation of its members is irrelevant.

Putting god on their crrency would be like putting "In gravity we trust." on your currency to them. Which actually I would be okay with. Gravity is a pretty stand up guy. He's always there and he knows how to bring you back down to earth.

That isn't what Frumple was saying at all.  He's making an argument from a Christian perspective about why God shouldn't be on money, not generalizing at all.

I'd prefer to ban horrible slippery slope fallacy arguments.
