Odd goblin anatomy: Bug or intended?
« on: March 22, 2012, 09:12:58 pm »

So I was being seiged, my lone elite marksdwarf was dealing out the hurt when I noticed this:

His pancreas is broken.
His kidney is fractured.

Is this intended? Are goblin supposed to have organs as tough as bone? Or is this a small bug? :P

..and then the child Praiseincest shall be dipped in the river of Pregnantjuices! Rejoice! The son of Armok has been born!
My dwarf worships the goddess of suicide. This can only bode well.

Uhg, I hope it was intended, it makes the battle scenes I imagine so much more horrific, with these armies of horrific creatures with SOLID ORGANS! They must be killed!

I believe that's Toadyspeak for a ruptured organ. It could use some cleanup at some point so it sounds right.

I'd say it's a small bug, or perhaps something that's literally an unintended feature, an unexpected outgrowth of things working as intended. There's a limited number of adjectives that can be used to describe wounds. It seems like internal injuries are described using bone-type adjectives, while external injuries are described using flesh-type adjectives, since under "normal" circumstances most internal injuries would be to bones and external to soft tissue. The game can't, or at least doesn't, check whether a body part is hard or soft when it chooses adjectives, so you get stuff like this. Since the pancreas and kidney are both internal, they're described with bony-tissue adjectives despite those being made of soft tissue.

I was more interested to discover that goblins have four arms and four legs.

The lower arm refers to the area below the elbow, the upper arm is the area above.

I watched a zombie dwarf tear off a girls dress and hit her with it so hard it became lodged in her skull.

Better to crush his dreams than to fracture his kidneys.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

yet brains get "torn apart" and hearts and lungs can become bruised, while bones become chipped or shattered.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.
