I'd say the book did this part with a little bit more class. Based on that trailer it looks like they're going to go for a more faithful adaptation than what the live-action films did. I'm definitely hopeful about this project, here's hoping it won't end up like that WH40K animation that came out some time ago. It was... It could have been better.
I wonder how much (if any) Skinnie action we'll get.
The book did
everything with more class. The thing that comes to mind the most for me is when Rico is flogged for failure in a combat exercise. The book? I don't remember
exactly what it was (IIRC it was a simulated training exercise, and he "detonates" a nuke rocket too close to a teammate, who in real combat would have been caught in the blast), while in the movie he has a trooper take off their helmet in the middle of the course during a live fire exercise and they get shot in the face. Yeah.
The novel was far more brutal than the movie adaption, in a somewhat different way than newer media.
... there's W40k movies outside that fan one that wasn't supposed to be released but was anyway? *checks* Woah, what the hell. There is. Surprising.
Wait, what? I was talking purely about Starship Troopers (and by extension, that the novel was as brutal in its own way as WH40K). That said, there is?! Ya learn something every day...
On the note of the Skinnies: Hell yes. They were more interesting opponents than the Bugs, in some ways (Hah, the talking bomb) and cutting that entire section of the novel about the raid on their homeworld (and later, the mention of the new alliance with them against the Bugs) really bugged me.
Another thing that really annoyed me about the movies (and, I suppose, about this new adaption) is how they completely tossed out the rather interesting weapon selection Heinlein had (flamethrowers, pocket nukes, a wide variety of bombs, etc.) for fuckin' assault rifles. At least this new thing looks like it is getting the armor closer to right.
