It's going to animated, follows the novel more closely than the other movies while keeping the bug designs... and looks awesome.

They already did an animated version of Starship Troopers.

It was AWESOME. (At least when I was a kid!)

Perhaps this will lead to a reboot (or at least a new run) of the old Red Planet series...

It'd be neat to see that again, I think. I vaguely remember it being interesting, heh.

I have a fondness for bad movies, and the last live-action Starship Troopers movie was a very good bad movie  :D

Bad enough you can take the piss, not so bad that its actually painful to watch.

I love the Starship Trooper novel, I read it every year. I love the first movie, but for different reasons then the novel and I adore the Roughneck Chronicles. It pains me that it got cancelled before it could conclude, it was /so/ fucking close.

The last 2 live action movies, have been pretty meh.

The first movie was good, for completely different reasons than the novel (mainly because it was a campfest). The second and third movies were absolute So-Bad-It's-Terrible crap, and were basically stereotypical substandard SPEHSS MARINE/horror movies with the Starship Troopers label sloppily applied. YMMV, of course.

Indeed on all counts.  On the other hand, the animated part gives me hope that it will at least channel the spirit of The Roughneck Chronicles, to whatever end that might be.  I watched that show every morning when I was a kid, and honestly, it had its good and bad moments but it was definitely something unique for its market.

I'd like to to think the Starship Troopers name is famous enough that many of the people who will go to see it and are ingrained in videogames will realize it's the progenitor of the "space marine", not a ripoff of anything.  I know I'm wrong.
