if only he knew a gunsmith who with some funding could raise him a pretty powerful army of musketeers.  Oh well.

I don't think he would be able to that. Army is out of his control, so he can't raise troops without raising suspicions and civil war that he is not able to win.

Heh, seems like I ought do the same. Because I got the feelinng that IRC got Niko killed.
But then again, its quite convinient to ask things of GMs in real time (god knows when they are on though :P).
If I'm not in IRC tonight, that means I did the same thing as thakid.

E: It seems that kathos won't weasel out of this one....

I've been telling you ever since the fall of the rebellion that Kathos and Nikephoros could work well together, of course, but they had a rather explosive combination of personnalities. What did you think would happen after a discussion where they insulted each other and Nike basically told him "I'm invading Mileth because you wounded my ego, and don't you try to stop me" - well, Kathos had a good way of stopping Nike and he used it  :P

That does not change the fact that Kathos' power relied on Nikephoros and that Niko was well within his power to do what he thought viable. Kathos chose the dumb option and now he is going to suffer.

Vengence from beyond the grave is always the most satysfying one. 8)

Kathos' philosophy when he faces problem like that is "Kill the bastard and then deal with the shitstorm" :P

Huh, I'd thought the most satisfying vengeance was the one were you live and the person you are against lives because you showed him mercy as he whimpered like a baby beneath you and loses every ill gotten gain.

Not really in a position to choose so I will have to take what I have. And Kathos' explanation is really hamfisted, since Niko was never a man who would do any of that subversive, clandestine stuff. And he essentially retold the story about a coup that Niko had no need for.

But I will let dice judge, though Kathos' explanation is fairly poor.

So I don't know, or cannot find anything on what the upgrades are, so I pulled that out of general knowledge.

Should I come up with a personal description for those under my command or leave them as blank and generic?

Also put some acronyms in the starting resources, to justify why I chose them.

Should've read 'You are a Lord' a long time ago...First time in any of these games.

One ought to admit that we do quite an abnormal number of mages for low fantasy setting.  How will it take until someone attempts something on a large scale, overshoots the roll (critical successes are a critical failure of sorts) and unleashes something dreadful upon the landscape, more likely than not dying in the process? I will quote CG on the setting looking highly flammable.

I will assume that whatever mysterious thing is supposedly happening in the south brought forth a considerable number of mages.
I wonder how will the temporal lords of the region deal with the arcane powers greater than them.

I'm counting on it going wrong. No better way to get the game going. ;-)
My character is partly build upon that foundation. Slowly drawing energy in from his surroundings, untill it bursts out for some reason (most often negative emotions like strong fear or anger). Of course we'll roll for control, but that control will mostly be unconcious and most likely going wrong. ;)

Still working on the specifics though. Will post him in a bit.

Well, all of our characters have been around for a whiel (lore-wise) since they are all in their 20s and 30s. What I meant that mages being drawn to this praticular region is interesting.
Having 4 of us in a setting where 1 in a radius of several hundred miles is rare means something will happen. And I hope that GMs will use this to construct ain interesting plot, usinfg that plague thing for example.
