I'm bored. Nothing good can come of this.
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:49:49 pm »

So, my PC just did an ASTOUNDINGLY accurate impression of what a 40-dwarf unprepared fort does when it breaches HFS, and had to reformat.  Luckily my important stuff (DF Mod in development!) is backed up in sextuplicate.  That means six times, pervert.  So i'm going to add the 'finishing touches' to the mod and release it.  And when I do, I will start a new fort.

An interesting new fort.

A VERY interesting new fort.

But, what will make it interesting?  Well, besides my mod, I want some community input.  A game, as it were, with multiple facets.
In other words, I want you to be my wierd little pet for a while.

So, here's how it's gonna go down:
I will need 2 people to play the 'Beuracracy'.  Think 'GOP and DNC'.  You'll both make demands for whatever reason you want, and duke it out with each other to come to an agreement.  And whatever the terms of that bizzarre mishmash of madness is, my fort will adhere to AS THE LAW.

I'll need an unknown number of players to play the Gods.  Your role will be a bit more backseat than the others, as you'll still make mandates and such of your followers, and possibly invoke divine vengeance (via DFHack) if spited enough.  But mostly you're just there to wierd out the mogun's silly little lives with things like, "I, the Mistress of Night, Ruler of Dreams and Nightmares, dictate that my followers must sleep within the caverns!"

I will then need 7 people or more to play starting mogun.  You get to pick which, as i'll post their info sheets.  Where you come in is thus:  You have the ability to up and veto an order or assignment from me, the gods, or the mogun government system:  With potential consequences for the last two.

I will run the game continuously at a fairly low framerate, and update every season change or major event.
You'll be able to give your orders at the start of every new year.
What kind of entity file do you have?  Are you a communist bent on dwarven engineering feats?  Or are you an agent of Chaos who just wants to watch the world !!FUN!!?  Perhaps you are Armok incarnate, and come death or map-covering sea of blood, you'll kill every last thing that enters the map?  Or perhaps you're an Elf in Dwarves' Clothes, seeking to subvert the mogun civilization to your bizzarre, canibalistic, tree-hugging ways?  Either way, this should prove interesting.

It'll be first-come, first-serve for all positions.

Before I begin, i'll need the two beurocrats.  Between you both, you'll determine what sort of starting location to embark on, and why.

Also, this is kinda how I envision mogun.  A cross between these:

They have a unique civilization from the other races, in every aspect.  Different body layout and big shreddy claws, smaller than dwarves (about 15% smaller), more docile in temperament, a bit dense*, and using their own unique equipment and gear.  More info will be available when the mod is finished and released.  This may also end up being an open-beta test for it.

Foley god of knock off clothing demands you create a massive textile industry to flood merchants with second rate, out of fashion socks and dresses!

I'd like to nominate myself as a bureaucrat.

My platform is one of efficiency, fort longevity, dwarven family values, and master quality roasts. As a member of the bureaucracy, I am also opposed to trading with non-metalworking races (although if they choose to show up in the depot, goods may be seized as needed), and I strongly support an across-the-board ban on dwarven women in military.

Vote efficiency! Vote Ingenuity! Vote Dwarf! TDD 2012!

My name is The Dog Delusion, and I support this message.

I think being a bureaucrat sounds like fun. My platform is one of taming Nature and Unnature to serve our needs. As such, I demand we embark somewhere with an Evil section and attempt to tame the wildlife, alive or undead, that we find there.

Malroth, did you want to be a god?

BTW, you'll get to pick which god you are, but the gods will come from the worldgen.  So you may not quite get what you want.
Dreams, Nightmares, Darkness, Caverns, Holes, and Fertility are some of the more common Mogun gods.  Especially Dreams and Nightmares.

I don't know how far off janglur is from completing the Mogun mod, but in the interest of realizing your dreams to tame the wildlife, we may want to wait until Toady's newest update (regarding training) is complete. Depending on whether or not janglur is done before that, at least.

Beyond that, I think our priority in choosing an embark site should be that it is rich in farmland availability. We must be able to produce as large a variety of food as possible, but must also balance this with ensuring that our chosen site also has access to as many minerals as possible. We can't call ourselves dwarves without a solid metal industry!
Evilness is acceptable, but only if the need for farmland and minerals is met. Taming animals is also acceptable, so long as we prioritize breeding programs for animals that are better for eating over those that are not as tasty. If the evil biome or animal training begins to threaten the stability and efficiency of the fort, however, I will have to insist that it be put off until a time when the fortress can safely handle such challenges on full stomachs.

I don't just mean taming animals. I mean taming the undead. Any soapmakers that can't figure out how to do that will have to be punished.

If they can't figure it out, after enough failures, I may settle for merely weaponizing them, of course. I am not a harsh taskmaster.

I would like to be a mysterious agent (let's just say a god) promoting the Rator International Communist sect amongst the mogun. I will work for solidarity amongst the workers, and the submission of any and all figures of traditional authority.

On grounds of being founding leader of Communist Fortress, I just can't resist!

Following the release, we will have to see if undead can be trained at all. If it's not possible, weaponization may be an acceptable method of controlling them and keeping our farmers out of danger.

I'm glad to see the bureaucrats working it out already!  Once you can come up with a compromise, we'll have the starting stuff set.
The mod is currently VERY close to finished.  So close, that I might as well say it is-  but because I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE people who release crap that's half-finished or buggy, I try to test things very thoroughly and fix as many bugs as I possibly can.  That isn't to say I can fix all of them, and some may be intended features (such as how making clay slats for llamelar armor is a very cluttery, time-consuming task-  this is because llamelar armor is a quality, difficult, unique Mogun manufactured armor.  It needs a downside.)
