Chapter 10: Relentless

We are dieing.
Starving and Dehydrating.
We have no Supplies, but the shore is so near.
It is only Me now, and one of My... I dont know what He is. He was one of My People, but We had never even met each other before this.
We have become friends now. A Fisherdwarf, who nicknames Himself Slowpoke, presumably because He likes, as He had told Me, to sit by the Shore, and relax. Fishing for recreation. Enjoying Life.
He hadnt seen the things I had seen. Fortunately the Fisherdwarf was spared the Horror of the Conflict We had endured, along with the others, who are now dead. May They Rest Soundly.
But We are nearly there.
So close now.
I dont think He knows yet. What I have done. What I am capable of. The boiling anger in My veins. How much it is taking out of Me to not explode in a stream of Bloodlust.
But My Feelings are equally quelled by My Sadness. My Regret. My... I dont even know the word for how I feel.
I wish I could have done things differently. Not done other things.
Taken an more even hand. Not succembed to My Egotism.
It wont happen again. Ever again.
I am going to control Myself.
This is My chance.
To be a better person.
Nobody knows Me now. Nobody at all.
Only this Man.
And He has seen only the best of Me.

I think they have all forgotten about the hatch incident by now. Good. Most dwarves appear to have short term memory anyways, possibly induced by the raving mad lunatics outside.

In any case, I think we need a freshwater well, as well as a hospital, in case someone gets injured, like that guy who fought the snowman. I'll be responsible for the well, naturally.

Funny you should mention that. I was having a pre-continuing-turn scan of the Fortress, thinking of where to build a Hospital, and thinking about the possible need for a nearby Water Supply. I think I know where the Hospital will go, so as to minimise travel time to it, but the Well might be complicated. I do however now know that YOU will be responsible for running it! "Custom Profession - Well Dwarf"

Yeah, except that we need it now, and Ill be making it. And more importantly, Ill be moving the water through Z-Levels to get to a Reservoir for the Hospital, and as an Emergency Water Supply incase something happens to cause us to abandon the upper levels; Possibly a zombie flood.

Its gonna take me a few hours to perfect the design plan, let alone actually implement it.
Im privy to suggestions, so heres the basic formula:

Reservoir ==> Hospital Water Supply Trough , Second Reservoir ==> Emergency Trough
Pump Stack
Cavern Water

Floodgates and Hatch Covers will manage it. There will be a 'sewer' like design, instead of 1x1 pipes, allowing Dwarves to wander around in there if I open the lever controlled door. This is so I can make new 'pipes' if need be.

The Shore is within eyesight. I see a Caravan up ahead, presumably the Nobles and Citizens.
We caught up to them, and I introduced Myself as a Traveller, and Slowpoke as a Fisher. They welcomed Us to Their Band.
They said They had made it here safely, but that They occassionally saw Men following from the Mountains, as though the Enemy persued from afar.
I made the acquantaince of a Pony, upon the back of which I rested briefly.
I petted it, and I feel We became Friends.
My second Friend.
My second step to forgiving Myself, out of possibly countless.
