The Pidgey misses you on the first turn, but hits Treecko with a Tackle on the second turn! Treecko takes 5 damage, but retaliates with a Pound Treecko does 8 damage to the Pidgey.

"Aw man," says the previously cocky trainer. "You won. I guess that means I need to give you a prize..." You gain a measly 100 PokeDollars. Your Treecko is close to leveling, another battle should do it. The other trainer walks away in shame.

 Bob Junior names his Charmander "Jim", because he has a strange sense of humor and then goes find some random Pokemon to catch while singing the Pokemon theme HOT-BLOODEDISHLY(tm).
