Google is cooking up eyeglass computers.  It's not quite a flying car but it's definitely the sort of thing that science fiction lead us to expect.  The first models will probably be pretty primitive but it sounds like the user interface is promising and that's the biggest hurdle, IMHO.  There are just a ton of ways this could be used as computing technology continues to improve.

I refuse to accept we're living in the future until A) jetpacks, and B) flying cars.

Yes I know they'd be redundant and you'd only need one or the other. Still.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Both were invented about 50 years ago.

Only if your definitions of "jetpack" and "flying car" are VERY broad.

I'll only accept Back to the Future 2's version of flying cars.

It's obviously not the future until we have a moon base!

But the glasses seem like a fun toy, if they sell a pair for less than $400 I'll probably get one. Though I can foresee accidents of people not paying attention and walking into things.

Especially if you use them to google for... arousing things while walking around town. I foresee a lot of inattentive men if that's possible.

A flying car, is a car that can fly. Totally invented a long while ago.

Jetpacks have been around for about as long. But its in the cool, but impractical. There just isn't enough room for fuel for long flights.

But there is this company: http://martinjetpack.com/

The reason why we don't have Jetpacks or the flyingcar promised us from pulp sci fi, or BttF2, is that they assumed we would have another revolution in energy, which didn't happen. Instead we got a revolution in information.

... yeah, first cyber-brain virus will be one that makes the infected disco at inopportune moments. Frankly, that is a world I want to live in.

Anywaaay. We've been in a sci-fi world since around the A-bomb, really, maybe the plane. With the PC and constant miniaturizations involved, that's only been exaggerated then multiplied by the internet ♪

Medical science counts nowadays, too. Cyborgs ♫

The good kind, not those puny pacemaker wimps. We got legs and crap running around, it's great. Not economical or fully tested yet, but great anyway.

Also attack robots of varying kinds and sorts. Drones, those "dog"-bot things, we're moving along on that front.
