When it comes to Pact AAA I prefer the Shilkas and Tunguskas. The first one is sort of a budget solution, though.

And the bonus objective... Heck, I lost 3 groups of infantry and a gunship on THE FIRST ENCOUNTER with the enemy...

My tanks ran out of ammo in the first mission, missing a single t34 around 200 times, so i had to restart that one...

At that point I would suggest moving your troops closer :p

Out of curiosity, how does this compare to RUSE and Men of War? I'm a sucker for realistic games, but RUSE wasn't particularly realistic - still interesting tactically though.

Damn, I managed to beat that nasty soviet mission with only 8 losses, of which 5 were recon choppers. But the last mission... is inhumane after the second-to-last one...

"You just managed to save a fraction of your forces from a pocket. Now go and destroy that enemy division!"

Sounds like Fun :D

Depends on what you consider realism.

Some people might get pissed that there are no jets in a Cold War game.

Some people might get irritated that there are tanks available that actually come in waaaay after the Cold War period ends in the first place.

Some people might hate the fact that there aren't any civilians to speak of in maps sizing hundreds of kilometers squared.

Some people might be annoyed by the complete lack of any terrain other than rolling European countryside.

Etc. etc.

Personally, I don't know if it's realistic or not. Realism is not really a quality I judge games by. I find it fun, addicting, and very challenging as well as mentally stimulating. I enjoy using my deviousness to annihilate puny egos that can't handle the strategic depth required of this. It's quite the drug and it's very rare to find a game so well designed for such a pure amount of strategic ability.

My fast and hard force hit a stumbling block, I did not account for others just fielding heavy tanks.

I kept telling you that would happen. =|

No amount of speed can save you from a T-80.

325 kph of a chopper can.

No amount of speed can save your 325 kph chopper from a SAM, though.

Just a quick MP hint. Guard your command vehicles with some AA, otherwise someone will take a single chopper round your back, blow then up, and win a quick victory.

Sorry bout that Warhammer, was too funny not to do.  :P

In your defense, I've pulled similar tactics on you pretty much every game.

Infantry's AA capabilities did come as a bit of a shock

Well your problem was that since the infantry was in a forest, you had to get real close to even see them, and since there was no other threat to them, they were firing all 40 guns at once at your one chopper.
