Dear Armok WHY?
« on: February 18, 2012, 07:40:23 pm »

Abandoned shops make my framerate cry. I can't go inside the walls in this town without having to supper 1 frame/minute.
And the sewer...
Is there any possible way to speed this up?

I get this too especially with large towns with markets, and strangely I think temples make me lag...

I reccomend letting him go nuts, though.  If he goes berserk, free target practice for your military!  If he doesn't, raving naked bedridden dwarf!

There are a crapload of stuff that game needs to keep track of. Modern computers are not good enough to run Dwarf Fortress :P

Take that, modern games! DF needs a better computer than your game needs!

Only times i've had severe lag problems in sites have been either huge markets or castles with hundreds of soldiers inside.

strange my older computer actually runs it pretty well, tho i guess i may be lagging due to the fact that the game is running as well as it used to for me, as in i might not be noticing lag due to the fact that i have always lagged.

I'm getting really bad lag in my current adventure. It's fairly unplayable, wandering the catacombs beneath the capital city. I am not sure if it is mobs in the city (animals and such) that are doing it or what.

Probably going to gen a new world. Not worth playing when it is so slow.

Here's a tip: In data/init you'll find a file called "init.txt". Inside, there should be "[G_FPS_CAP:50]". I set that to 5, and my game hasn't lagged nearly as much (so far). The changes may take a bit of getting used to, but the increase in framerate should more than make up for it.

what are the changes that would take getting used to? as in whats g_fps_cap do?

graphical frames per second cap.

Or, in layman's terms, how often the game checks to see if you've pressed a key. There might be some lag between button presses and movement, but in my experience it's nowhere near the level of town lag I got.
