You are a mage, what magics do you use?
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:44:36 pm »

Simple little fun question, you are a mage. What type of magics do you study? Illusions? Cold spells? Fire spells? Electric spells? You know, wizard stuff.

I'd be a necromancer. Having an army of zombies and going from town to town slaughtering people for more zombies would be great. Then I'd give my zombies picks and make them dig a nice big fortress for me...

Chronomancy; control of time. Live forever, get through the DMV in 5 seconds of perceived time.

Gap hax, bitches.

I manipulate the boundary between personal omnipotence and non-omnipotence, rendering unto myself the power of God.

Gotta go with kaenneth on this one, because I hate myself and want to inflict all sorts of time-related misery.

See you guys all go the the omnipotent, game breaking powers. Never happy with the simple powers. None of that for me, thank you very much, all the coolest protagonists have much more base elements.

I'm going to stick to my ice magics.

But hey, with boundary manipulation, you can tweak the boundary between past (or future) and present, allowing you to traverse the continuum of time at will. Chronomancy and omnipotence. Gap hax is best hax.

Boundary between the possibility of there being an ice spear sticking through your enemy and there not being one. Gap hax is best hax.

Summoning magic. Because what better way to get a job done then summon something for the job? Also, lovely flames are lovely.

You missed one.  What enemy can touch you when you can simply push her across the boundary between life and death?

The Wild Talents setting 'Progenitor' has a character who is ultra-smart and clairvoyant within one lightyear.  His best power, though, is that he can subconsciously use those powers to answer any question that would be answerable.

The answers are always phrased in exactly 100 words.

(And yes, one of his first uses of this power is to ask himself what the best question to ask is.)

I've also been keen on polyform shapeshifting; that is, able to choose any reasonable form, and not be stuck with 2 options like a werewolf.

I think it was the Thieves World series that had a mage cursed to continually polymorph, but never the same form twice.

Now I think it is safe to assume that such meta-magic would take a very long time to master, so while you are struggling to cross the gap between flipping heads and tails, I'm already making Cirno cry because I make her look that weak. All I need to do is get you before you happen to cross the gap from pathetic metric magi to arch tinkerer.

I'd go with light magic. Calming, healing glows? Check. The ability to banish undead? Check. Instant camouflage? Check.

Anyone say that Light is Good, and Good is Dumb? Laser beams, bitch.
