Holy crap! That was absolutely terrifying!
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:21:13 am »

For long time (many df versions) I have been embarking to nice easy places, and concentrated to explore undergrounds.

Homewer, now I wanted some more challence and embarked to evil biome.

I was not aware how terrifying those areas look nowadays. I almost spilled my morning coffee and fell off my chair!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I really thought that I have embarked in middle of gazillion (O)gres and (o)rcs and purple elite monsters!  :o :'(

It almost hurts my eyes to suddenly see so much purple  :-X

And what are those things? Staring eyeballs growing from ground, huh! freakish stuff...

It is the grass from an evil biome, grazers can eat it (will be changed in later).
You can turn off the blinking or make it blink slower in the RAW files.
what are those icons in the right and left top corners of your screen? Linux or something like that?

That's extremely disturbing.

Just...

Yes, grazers can eat it like grass.  Which is even more disturbing.

Do they burn in a fire like grass?  Must find out, for !!science!!

I have Debian GNU/Linux and those icons are from IceWM-windowmanager.

I can almost hear the sizzling and popping sound they would make.

Ugh. :-X

I was thinking about googling some images/videos to explore concept of slimy-eyeball-monstrosity thing, but I'm just eating so it may not be good idea just now...  ::)

The D&D beholder would be a good start, after you eat.

Those evil biome plants always remind me of this video, "Sixes Last" for Alias by 1st Ave Machine:

I personally think that evil and good plants shouldn't LITERALLY be what their description says. Have evil looking plants that look like eyeballs sure, but having physical eyeball plants, made of meat, is pushing it a bit for me.

If you want to not see such an eyemelting display, just cover the area in floors or roads.

Or change the tile used by the grass in the raws.

I did that, now those wormy tentrils and staring eyeballs are little bit more peacefully colored.
