Yep! Although the last line was supposed to be a reference to Mother Brain. "Lots of thoughts".

I suppose that I post one now. Hopefully someone gets it. Still NES themed.

Iron raised on high poised to strike,
A flash permeates the sky
And down falls one of many foes.
One, two, three flashes of light, but the enemy does not fall.
A friend mocks from afar.

What am I?

EDIT: I suppose I should have waited to get the point confirmation. Sorry.

No problem. 31 points to you. Also:

Megaman:

Iron raised on high poised to strike, -one of the bosses is Metal Man
A flash permeates the sky - Another is Flash man
And down falls one of many foes. - One boss is vulnerable to Flash Man's weapon
One, two, three flashes of light, but the enemy does not fall. -it's otherwise useless
A friend mocks from afar. - not sure

Not quite, though I do like Megaman games.

EDIT: Feel free to make more guesses, or ask for a hint.

The riddle as it stands:

Iron raised on high poised to strike,
A flash permeates the sky
And down falls one of many foes.
One, two, three flashes of light, but the enemy does not fall.
A friend mocks from afar.

What game am I?

It has been a few days without guesses, so all I will add is that this is a well known classic. Shouldn't be too obscure a NES title.

Duck Hunt.

Iron raised on high poised to strike, - The barrel of the gun is probably made of iron or steel.
A flash permeates the sky - When you shoot, the whole sky turns orange and yellow for a second.
And down falls one of many foes. - The ducks fall after one hit, but they are endless.
One, two, three flashes of light, but the enemy does not fall. - After three shots the duck flies away freely.
A friend mocks from afar. - When you miss, the dog laughs at you.

Your right it is Duck Hunt. Although iron is slang for a pistol, a reference to the lightgun. There is an end to Duck Hunt, it is a kill screen at level 100 (see link if interested). Good job.

Barbaross has forfieted his riddle. I am taking it.

Awake! Your hero has come into his reward
Through ancient dungeon and rancid fen
Mazes fiendish, and caverns dark
He battled foes cunning and clever

Awake! The darkness has been driven back
Doom averted, Your kingdom saved
Fell servants slaughtered, the innocent saved
First you were, last you may be

Whoops, entirely forgot about this.

The Legend of Zelda
Awake! Your hero has come into his reward - There were plenty of rewards in the game.
Through ancient dungeon and rancid fen - The game was mainly focused around completing Labyrinths, but there was also a watery region.
Mazes fiendish, and caverns dark - Again, labyrinths.
He battled foes cunning and clever - The AI for enemies was slightly better than average for the time.

Awake! The darkness has been driven back - You beat up Ganon, who is probably the darkness.
Doom averted, Your kingdom saved - You save Hyrule and stop Ganon from winning.
Fell servants slaughtered, the innocent saved - You save the princess in the end.
First you were, last you may be - The first game of the series, sometimes speculated to be a story taking place long after the events of the other games.

Lapsed thread is open?

Theme: Animal

Slow under sight, swift under sound.
Away I fly, forever round.
Back I come, to slow me down.
Then leave both doomed and those who drown.
