I have a herd of donkeys that are breeding like rabbits. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, they're marked as "friendly", not "tame", so I can't butcher them all. What do I do about this?

Is your game modded in any way? Did you settle on a human/elf/dwarf/goblin town?

Nope. The only mods I've done are genociding hippos and carp, and changing a couple of smelter reactions.

I have a similar thing happening but I know the cause.
Are you also drowning traders as a constant supply of meat for a carnivor race? ;)

the donkeys dont seem to drown, and infact seem to be able to swim out the top..

Hallway full of repeating upright spikes.  If they're 'friendly' rather than 'tame' you should be able to butcher them once they're dead.
