My version of the anti-Building Destroyer mine would be a 3X3 platform of floor held up by a support. Tantrumming dwarf/troll/whatever comes past, dies.

The thing is, the only whips I have are iron; even just one will almost kill a goblin pretty quickly.
Is this something you're saying with proof of having tried it, or are you just saying that because the weapon's made of iron and so deals 100% of its usual damage?

I'll let you know that in a game I've got just now, I've got an "immigration room" filled with 16 1-wooden-spike spike traps. As they're wooden, they deal 50% damage, but that's still 75 damage and they're piercing so have a good chance of getting the heart, lungs etc. as well. I've seen some dwarves survive as many as seven or eight stabs before finally dying of blood loss or suffocation due to pierced organs. An iron whip deals only 20 damage. Even though you get the 100% damage because it's iron, it's still barely more than 1/4 of the damage a single wooden spike can dish out, and a whip isn't going to skewer your victim's organs so they're not going to die prematurely because of injuries to internal organs unless those injuries were obtained before they were captured. I don't see how you can repeatedly whine about their execution being too quick, unless you're wanting the bastards to suffer for a season or two before they die.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

So mod whips to do 1 damage.

That's what I do.

Proof. I already have one of this trap.

Also, a season or two would be nice.

Try something that activates with low probability, then. A spike that activates based on a slow timer. Requires some minor dwarfputing, though.

Gore is actually one of the best damage types in the game; it seems to be a combination of piercing, bludgeoning and slicing, as i've seen gore attacks pierce organs, lop off limbs and send people flying (sometimes all at once).

So while Whip damage is pretty low, they actually tear through things a lot more effectively than you'd think from their low damage value.
