I'm building a Cube, patterned after the movie of the same name.It consists of a 10x10 grid of crosses, each consisting of a 5-wide, 5-tall cross with a staircase in the center connecting each cell to the ones above and below it, in addition to being connected to the ones to the north, south, east, and west.

Each cube within the cube consists of two layers: the trap, and the shifter.  The shifter alters the ability to access different parts of the cube - between each cross is a 1x1 channel with a retracting drawbridge built over it, controlled in a mostly random fashion by the plates.  The traps vary with each cube - some are atom smashers connected to the plates I mentioned above, some are quality-less mechanisms with a single copper dagger in them, some are bristling with a half dozen crossbows.  Not all cubes are trapped, nor are all of them trapped in all four possible tiles.

In all, the thing is 59 tiles wide and 59 tiles tall, spanning 10 Z-levels.  There's somewhere around a thousand mechanisms in use throughout the thing.

I'm considering putting this map up in a while as a 'tourist' map for people to wander around, admire the architecture, and see the sights.  Of course, it's more fun if you enable traps in adventure mode...

I suggest you have a room with one goblin and cages full of cats. This trap uses the kitten logic system (a kitten in a sealed room full of pressure plates) and each cage will have one to seven full grown cats in it.
As the logic kitten wanders around the room, he will activate a pressure plate, releasing cats, and the goblin will soon over exert himself trying to kill all of the cats and be treated to a death that will make him the laughing stock of the afterlife.
NOTE: you may use any caged creature for this, but cats are usually in good supply.

My Hammerer and Duchess are about to take a dive off my new super-size 30-level execution pit for having a CROSSBOW CHAMPION hammered for not fulfilling a production order for Crystal Glass. Pricks.

Someone just posted in the "Holy crap that's evil..." thread about dumping all the clothes of prisoners and leaving them in an outdoor pit, exposed for the cold to kill them. If you're playing in a superhot/cold biome...

Right, right, you did indeed mention that. Hm... place the gobbos in a pit with a single stone of a type you're not really using anywere else, set it to boiling point 10 in the raws, load the save and watch the carnage?

The Last Crusade Floor; it's a floor made out of floor hatches (i did it in a checkerboard pattern with the solid floor bits held up by pillars). Release the goblins to run across and open the hatches at random (i'd set it up so there were pressure plates on the floor bits that opened up all adjacent hatches).

If they fall down a hatch (as they invariably do) they drop 2-3 z levels down into a room with the only way out being back across the hatches. The Goblins will very slowly fall themselves to death.

I also had it set up so that if one managed to make it through the course, a system dumped him back into the room at the bottom.

I later updated the system to be a corridor of bridges, which turned out to work better, same concept though. Also it may take a long time...

I've also heard that if you make a floor out of down stairs and shoot goblins as they run across, any that fall unconscious will fall through the down stairs, thus if you stick a pit beneath the stairs, splat.

Others say this doesn't work any more as unconscious creatures do not fall down stairs, i've never tried it so i don't know.

A baroness once ordered my legendary weaponsmith hammered. I put a lever into a deep pit, set her as the only one who can use it, and set it to be pulled repeatedly. Then I cut her escape path and had dwarves slowly fill the pit with with water via buckets.

It was funny, even the baron himself took joy in participating. Though she managed to escape by learning how to swim. Moreover, she then cared to avoid spiked traps in her room. Sure, it's only because I wasn't patient enough, but you can always imagine...

A smart dwarf.
Truly disturbing, isn't it?
Also, she did not make any more stupid mandates.

Maybe we should all do this if it makes smart dwarfs...oh no the dwarves have come out of my CPU to kill me for torturing them!

How about a friendly Goblin Golf tournament for the recreational benefit of your military?

Build a tower as high as you like, with a platform and a lockable room at the top. Isolate a goblin on the platform, and station Contestant Number One, a hammerdwarf or macedwarf, in the locked room. Unlock the door, and let the dwarf whack the goblin off the platform, and see how many tiles the goblin flies before landing. Repeat with new goblins and new contestants, and the winner can get a special high-value statue placed in his or her room (if you have private rooms for military).

You can even channel out a small pit on the ground and award a "Hole in One" statue to any dwarf lucky enough to land the goblin inside.

How do you get the goblin up there? Cage with lever attached?

Get a whip from gobbos or humans. Dig a 1x1 channel, and build a weapon trap there. Load it with the whip and some no-quality mechanisms. Designate it as a pond and fill it with 4/7 water. Then designate it as a pit and dump a single goblin in. He will be neck-deep in water, being slowly beaten to death by the crappiest weapon in the game. As he agonizingly bleeds to death, the water will turn red with his blood.

Repeat with all the goblins.

I have one of those already, but even an iron whip kills them too quickly. Also the water drains when you go to recover his goblinite if you didn't strip him or if you want his bones/skull.

I saw a video of a trap that froze invading goblins in ice.

Apparently, water only freezes if it is in an "outdoor" tile. The trap involved sealing invaders in a chamber that was filled with 2/7 water, then retracting the overhead bridges and smirking evilly as they were encased in ice.
