There is an option somewhere in the init file on which you can limit the maximum FPS of your Dwarf mode game. I'd suggest you put it at 100...  ;)

Why? I can always pause it, and I'm sick of waiting for the sim to run. I've played a total of 15+ years in various fortresses at 12FPS.

Also, if I look at the right part of the glacier and only have seven dwarves, it is at ~280FPS.

Too sad that my old Sis card made this game stay at 12-16fps. And I didn't know how to disable vertical sync. Today I installed the newest dirvers and utilities. Everything was fine, until that Utility Tray crashed when I tried to configure it.

once i found it the vsync on my laptop was already switched off, but just turning off temp and weather and starting a new fortress shot the fps up to 100 (where it's capped).  even without the cord plugged in the game runs quite swiftly - but the dumb battery tends to run out of juice and stubbornly refuses to inform me ahead of time, no matter what i do to it.  this results in creative use of several languages when the game screen disappears and windows prepares to shut down.... sigh.

I guess that would be a good reason to play in windowed mode...  ;)

Because if he don't see his battery life or some kind of warning, I'm assuming that he plays fullscreen. If he plays in windowed mode but still don't see his battery low message or warning, it's not a DF problem but him who have a problem with his laptop...

Oh, that makes sense.

I've never seen the differences between a laptop and a desktop computer.
