Is my typical 12-14 fps abnormally low? I think it is, but I'd like to confirm before searching for system information to give.

Your FPS is directly related to your system specs and your graphic card power. Try updating drivers and playing a little with your graphic card options.

I know very little of how to do that. For example, where would I get drivers and where are the graphic card options?

Information that may or may not be of any help:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.39GHz, 768 MB of RAM

Under Display Adapters in the Device Manager, I have NVIDA GeForce4 MX 440

I read the thread and googled "how to disable VSync nvidia"

It told me to go to the nvidia control panel, which I couldn't find. Where is it?

Try right-clicking on the desktop and selecting the option. It should be right there, at least it was on my computer.

Yup, that's where I got mine too. I had to fiddle with my graphic card options though, and it took me a while to find it.

Mildly off-topic, but just how high of a resolution can your monitor support, EoF?

1280x1024. Or so it says.

I tryied all the resolutions in DF to see which one is best in fullscreen, and by far the best tileset is the default tileset at 800x600.

Look under the tabs of OpenGL. Should be there out of any other place.

Well... Do you have a graphic card in your computer? Because if you don't, I don't think those options would be available to you...

Also, try looking in your configuration menu of Windows. Your graphic options might be hidden there.

Finally found out how to update graphics card driver and did so.

Now, the control panel is where you said it should be. I have turned off vsync. Result: 200 to 300 fps while paused or otherwise not running the simulation, ~30 fps while running the simulation. That's almost three times as fast!

Next, I turned temp+weather off. Result: 35 to 50 fps, usually around 37 to 42. Even better!

However, from what I can tell, that is (while supermegafast to me) unusally slow. Any tips?
