A piece of debris struck Ricardo. He stumbled, and it was all the enemy sniper needed. The cave shook and reverberated with sound, and part of the scaffolding collapsed behind you. A Gauss bolt struck up through Ricardo's chin. His body was blasted back and buried in debris. [Enemy Gauss 103 vs Ricardo Commando 20]

Sunlight streamed sideways in through the collapse as you continued to run. Make commando checks. You may take -10 dicetype if you also wish to fire at the Gauss gunner. You will be out of her arc regardless at the end of the turn.

Kaito, still a bit staggered from the debris that had gashed his side, focused fully on moving forward. Hanging back to keep trying to shoot this gauss woman was just likely to get him buried. he could handle her once he had firm ground under him. It took him a couple moments to realize that Ricardo wasn't following, and another moment to realize that meant another team member was down. "Move it team! Out of her firing arc, take a shot if you're open but not getting buried is your first priority!"

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Danh briefly turns as the gauss spike flies by, heart stopping as it doesn't hit him. But it does hit Ricardo.
In his brief moment of shock, a flying rock plonks off his helmet, shaking him back to the situation.
Teeth grit, he continues his  direct charge to the shooter, gun raised and firing every step of the way, either unhearing or unresponsive to Kaito.

"Danh--this is not a favourable position for us. Stop immediately," Stella says as she sprints out of the elevator's line of sight.

[Tina Murdoch]

Tina keeps up her charge at the gauss trooper, hoping to hose her down before a third shot.
[Commando 66] She don't take damage this time, and gets in a good position to shoot.
She goes for a full auto mag dump.
[Small Arms 85] The elevator's wall start looking like Swiss cheese.

The team tumbled to the end of the hall, landing on the tower. Vigil and Ricardo's battered remains fall nearby. They approached the stairs, running up the tower beside them towards a higher entrance, when suddenly their helmets came online with an incoming broadcast. Orbital communications had been restored.

"Abort Mission, Gate Team 1." Came the image of their usual HR Rep. "We've just received transmission from Earth. The war is over."

The remaining survivors of the enemy team, including their Gauss sniper, peacefully surrendered when the message came through. Transports were dispatched, repairs would get underway. They were each quietly fired, without reference, and returned to the Earth.

Under the terms of the Armistice, the Latin Union annexed the rest of the Americas to form the New American Union, which turned it's fleets and armies to continue to nationalize it's corporations. The world was shocked and outraged, but, despite armed soldiers now spread throughout the solar system to ensure revenue for the state, life improved under the New American Union. The UBI went up for the first time in generations. Within two years, the other nations of the world had, in the face of overwhelming public support, opted to join the New American Union, which rebranded itself the Earth Union.

Many of the early acts of the Earth Union were to limit the freedoms of corporations in order to prevent future capital flight. This included the suspension of the Gate program. Earth would retain her three colonies, as each of them would take decades, perhaps centuries to fully exploit. Akras briefly pondered fleeing through the gate to a distant, unknown world, but shareholders voted against it, in part because Akras' market position, and in part because many of the shareholders could not safely reach the gate.

Industrial mining on Mars and around Rigel fed growing cities and autofactories on New Australia. Multiple new solar systems' worth of resources to tap and exploit created a new economic renaissance on earth, and the Earth Union saw to it that the public shared in all of it. The cost of shipping made goods vastly cheaper on New Australia, and a great many humans chose to emigrate, despite the danger. Drone wars against the spiderbeetles all but wiped them out, save for zoos and biolabs.

Christmas remains a beloved vacation destination. The growing human population on the gate network make it an ever more popular vacation and immigration destination - though most homes have daylight simulation. On earth, and in all of it's colonies, Christmas Moths remain the dominant pet craze. As qualities of life continue to grow, Christmas Moths become a common sight, fluttering through the neon lights of revitalized cyberpunk cities, laying across laps by simulated fires, and soaring high over the New Australian sky.

As humanity's great engine of industry passes through Akras' exclusive monopoly tradeport, Akras' value continues to skyrocket, with the tax and tribute paid to the earth by other corporations now almost all passing to Akras. Today, Akras' stock closes at the equivalent of 98k per share, the stock having split a few dozen times since the last Gate mission.

Most of the original gate team retired to relative wealth, and those that didn't found rising standards of life easily caught them. Each of you is free to describe your epilogue, or, if applicable, your money's epilogue, who it went to, and what became of your memory.

"Danh Loi stuck with the Akras Corporation for a few more months after the final, traumatic mission. It was then he quietly retired, stating no particular reason as to why. The once-angry demolitions expert had mellowed down, spending most of his time alone in his quarters, rapidly falling deeper into alcoholism, before he left the company. Back on Earth, he used his money to buy a microscopic island off the coast of Vietnam, relatively preserved. It was just big enough for a small house, and a dock to match. Living there alone for many years, he rarely left, with most his needs brought to him via drone.
Eventually, when packages piled up at his door, the delivery company investigated, and found him dead in his bedroom. He'd died alone in his sleep from alcohol poisoning, having slipped into a coma one night, and never woken up.
The man had never forgiven himself for what happened in his past, nor had he found anything to live for during, or after his brief career in Akras.
His name remained a hardly heard footnote in the annals of humanity's Gate era, simply as 'One of the original Gate explorers'.
In time, he was completely forgotten."

Stella would remain with Akras for a similar time, working to explore the remaining areas of Christmas and New Australia. Afterwards, she would become a military advisor for the Earth Union, focusing primarily on ensuring that her services would ultimately become unneeded. Simultaneously, out of respect, she would keep tabs on the rest of the members of the team. She would donate a large portion of her wealth to educational organizations as well as helping to pay off the debts of anyone wounded on Akras missions. In addition, she would make arrangements for, if nobody else would, Danh Loi's funeral and finance it. She would send an invitation to his family, if she could locate them, and the members of the gate team. Of course, she would attend it herself.
Eventually, she would probably retire to what used to be Tibet, pledging the rest of her life to one of the remaining Buddhist monasteries.
