Here to do a relatively quick post-mortem of Civil War. Which is abandoned/dead, likely indefinitely.
I stopped updating (this quickly) due to what appeared to be an utter lack of interest. Which is a shame since I actually really like this setting. But having only two people at most giving suggestions between updates is just too little for me to go on.
So basically, Civil War was heavily inspired by "You are a new god" (Name may not be correct, but I heavily recommend reading it to anyone who hasn't.); the relatively old now-abandoned SG where the 'player' was a newcomer god. The gameplay there took form of basically building an empire from a little village. Though sadly the SG ended before that happened. I wanted to replicate something similar to that in Civil War, having the 'player', a regular human in this case, build up their tiny village into a large power.
The setting of Civil War takes place after a surgical strike by a revolutionary force into the ruling party (the royal family) of The Great Empire of Kayth. The Empire was seen as a bureaucratic corrupted mess of government that most people simply saw as a disturbance into their regular lives. While most people still were relatively fine with this, a particular person, Ryth Bytess, used the overall discontent to recruit people to consolidate his power. After a riot in one of the Empire cities, Bytess took advantage of his connections and influence to use the riot in order to seize control of the city, planting his followers in leadership positions. From here, the Revolution began in full throttle.
The Empire "fell" at the Collapse. It was at this time an injured Bytess (heavily wounded during a prior battle), seeing his Revolution fragmenting without his direct leadership, used all of his contacts and agents within the Empire capital to essentially seize the center of the city for a limited period of time before reinforcements arrived, using the time to publically execute the Royal family and many key officials of the Empire.
And this marks the Collapse of the Empire, but not the actual end. While the Empire had a monarchy, it also had a senate, which ruled over more minor affairs (and were easily overruled by the monarch) operating in the Capital. Bytess had planned on executing each senator and razing the Senate, but was thwarted by Provis Reeds.
Provis Reeds was at the time a prestigious senator. Seeing the attack coming, he was able to use his own forces and secure quick reinforcements to keep the Senate safe from any attempted attack. After control was regained of the City, Reeds was able to use his new influence with the remaining members of the Senate to secure the title of Emergency Dictator.
This is NOT like the Emperor in the Star Wars prequels shut up
With his new title and power, Reeds disbanded the Senate, stating that after the crisis had ended, the Senate would be restored and a new constitution would be written. But until then, Reeds argued that he needed all the power possible to regain complete control of the empire.
While it was still officially called "The Great Empire of Kayth", most people have taken to calling this new entity the "Remnants", due to the fact that the Remnants prove to be a mere shadow of what the Empire once was.
But by the time Reeds had managed to regroup the Capital's and surrounding forces, the damage had already been done. The damage done to infrastructure and forces during the Collapse was great, and the extreme majority of major cities had declared independence (for the Revolution or otherwise) from the Empire. Reeds had to spend time reconsolidating his power before moving on the surrounding cities and Revolution.
At this time, the Revolution is also in disarray. With the Collapse and apparent lack of true leadership from the still-injured Bytess, sects within the Revolution started internally distancing themselves from the leadership, instead forming more local 'alliances' and using the Revolution's cause to further their own goals.
This sets the stage for Civil War. A small village, forgotten by both the Remnants and Revolution, gets the perfect opportunity to finally seize what's rightfully theirs while both main players take their time to recover and fight each other.
And this is the setting. My favorite personally, as it both allows for lots of gameplay elements and actually gives a story. I hope to 'some day' be able to make another game with this setting.
So, if anyone has any feedback at all in regards to the 'gameplay' or how I managed anything in particular, please, help me with criticisms. This proves to be the fate of my SGs too many times and I'd like to stop it.
Also feel free to ask any more questions about the setting/story if you want.
