... while ASCII is English (a lingua franca, recognized internationally and known more widely than any other language, but confusing as hell to those who don't know it).

...while ASCII is Latin (a lingua franca, formerly recognized internationally but today known only by a dwindling group of specialists and historians, and disregarded entirely by the proletariat)

I actually quite like the lingua franca argument, and I'm just having Fun With Analogies, no disrespect intended :)  But if you look at Community Stories or whatever these days, there are just as many games in Tilesets as not, and even in the ascii games there is tons of stonesense and what not.  (Personally I don't mind ascii or tilesets, but I can't understand stonesense at all other than the broad outlines of the architecture)

Comparing ASCII-users to the Roman Empire is kinda mean...
I use ASCII and don't see why it's so hard to hit k or v, or how various letters are harder to identify, with context, than various images. I don't want to force ASCII on anyone, but I'm guessing at least 25-30% of DF players use some variety of ASCII.

Play it in whatever manner makes it easier for you to understand.

Some of us understand tilesets easier(me included) others understand ascii easier

Both sets of users contribute monetary funds to the game, neither is better but both are good for the game.

What is up with people who get used to ASCII and then can't read tileset,
I may be in fact insane enough to understand both.

EDIT: Changed infact to in fact.

To this day the elven warrior castes hunt the enemies of nature for the purpouse of bringing back slain intelligent beings for consumption by their leaders and generals, for the good of nature and the survival of elvenkind.

And that is the story of how napalm was invented.

OP should change the title of this topic to "Battle of the Century: Tilesets VS ASCII" or something.

This thread carried on long enough. Why can't tileset users and ASCII users live in peace together?

Because they are dwarves, and each view the other as violating the dwarven code of Awesome. As the punishment for such is a hammering, such hostlity is expected.
