Doesn't anyone care about the dozens of dead elves!?

I care deeply. Or atleast enough to buy a round of booze in celebration.
Yay Booze!

Righto, here's the drinking game. Kill an elf; take a drink. Go.

Just remember, to a true dwarf, life is a drinking game.

Burning and raping the land is recreational. Where business is concerned, though, sustainability is the name of the game.

I don't care about the dead elves because there are far more dead dwarves in the river than elves. I thought that the river would push them off the map so I just dumped the dead bodies in but I was wrong. Also I'm getting ghosts now that I've updated to 31.18, so I'm building a huge structure at the far end of the river to house my coffins and slabs.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

You just... dumped all the bodies in the river? Oh god.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

Party hour at Untelligent's fort?

I thought you were being a dick, then I realised that WAS their name.

Yea, it can get sort of awkward at he's place, with he's brothers 'loser', 'ugly' and 'a dick'.

Commodore Horrible's a pretty fun guy to be around, though.

I dunno why everyone is so down with killing elves in a way that doesn't involve magma or smashing. They die, you get their animals, but you also get pages and pages of cloth and wooden trinkets.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

(provided the ice won't destroy items when it freezes)

It definitely doesn't. Couple winters ago a few goblin corpses ended up in the stream. I couldn't be assed to recover the corpses or their stuff, but when the stream froze over I just dug out the ice and struck goblinite.

Odd. A bunch of stuff fell in one of my murky pools, which froze, and come the thaw it was gone.  On the other hand, I've had stuff (including a built cage) survive being encased in obsidian, so I don't know why I expect ice to behave consistently...

Objects encased in ice disappear if it thaws, but until then they can be mined out of the square they were in.

Slightly off-topic: None of the non-domestic animals that traders bring to my forts are actually usable. I mean, yeah, they're listed as tame, but they aren't listed as Stray X (Tame), just X (Tame), and I can cage, chain or pit them, but they don't show up in the Animals menu, so I can't butcher them or assign them as pets.
