It is terrifying.

It was inevitable

I think someone said something about clowns having conversations while in the circus, with one of them saying "At least it doesn't rain down here"

Nietzsche wrote, "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friends, we are not he who fights monsters. We are not he who gazes into the abyss.

We're the thing in the abyss that's gazing back!"

"Lets make a moat!" I said.
"It will protect us!" I said.
...
I stopped a river.
I have no idea how.
I have no idea why it stopped.
It just stopped.
It is no longer flowing, and I fear for my crops.

I feel like this summarizes the mysteries of !!Dwarven Engineering!! rather well, other than the lack of magma.

Not a quote, but related to the "my river stopped" stuff above: I fondly remember reading about a story where someone embarked on a waterfall map, where the downriver i.e. lower portion of the map was a colder climate, that froze in winter, while the upriver part didn't freeze (or froze only later?). Cue a LOT of flooding in the lowland parts and long-term low-fps until he built a dam or abandoned, since the biome border of course wasn't exactly at the waterfall's cliff.

It is not the mysteries of !!Dwarven Engineering!! as the mysteries of nature.
Turns out, the river froze over, and I mistakenly thought the water was just sitting there.

Well... the mysteries of the interface, then.

But I don't doubt someone, somewhere, playing this game, has accidentally stopped a river. It's just the kind of thing that happens.

My Sigtext thing. and:

I hate to think that the first thing Cog did upon finding an elf was pat him down and check his gender manually...
I guess you can tell the gender of an elf from his/her voice. I think.
I'm not so sure that's true with elves... but anyway, gender is one thing, the screenshot described the type of clothes, and even the fabric type of his loincloth

I forget who had the quote and who said it, but it was something about a mother dwarf reading to her kids about "Urist McHero and his pet kitten defeating the evil snow butterfly."

Kids:  yay!

Took some digging, but I found the original text.  Twice.  (failed to set a bookmark when I found it the first time)

My first evil beastie o doom turned up!

Zepave Dawnhogs the Butterfly of Vales the Marsh Titan.
Rather anti-climatically it was made of snow, and after crippling a farming dwarf (it must have swum up my well or something... i had everything locked down in abject terror) it was taken out by a single novice axedwarf and his pet war kitten (The kitten showed a rather violent combat log, so that's one cat not getting butchered).
Long Live Domas Etasastesh Adilloram, slayer of the snow butterfly!

Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...

Mother: "...and after the evil snow butterfly was defeated, Domas and his kitten lived happily ever after!"
Kids: "Yaaaay!"

Very fun quote ^.^
