I followed the wiki tutorial closely and burrowed into a mountainside. My only protection were a few boulder traps and a drawbridge. Alas during the first invasion, almost all my dwarves were outside. All of them died. I managed to close the bridge but I had no moat, so the trolls smashed it. I walled up a corridor in time to stop them moving in deeper into my fort, but I had only like 3 people left and all my food were outside so I quit. :P

Ah yes, I recall it was back in the 2D days. I think my first loss counts as a flooding. I dug into the mountain, all the dwarves and supplies got lost, and I think deer or something killed the remainder.

It was... something like 5-6 years ago, I think. Maybe 4. I barely knew what I was doing at all, and everyone ultimately starved because I didn't realize I had to set my farms to grow particular things. Or that they had to be inside to grow mushrooms.

Afterwards, I studied the wiki for a while before trying again. Bluntly, my fortress designs are still hideously bad, but at least my dwarves tend not to starve. Er, on accident at least.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Well, I kinda made the mistake was reading the guide on the wiki (and the wiki in general), so my first fort was fairly stable...

It KINDA fell to the invasion. Actually, the invasion was thwarted, but the fort was made dysfunctional due to the resulting anger and madness. :P

A goblin ambush. At first I wasn't sure what was happening.

FPS, which is oddly missing from the list.

But also a new, save-incompatible release.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
I spend most of your dimension's time outside of your dimension. I can't guarantee followup or followthrough on any comments, ideas, or plans.

I've been playing  for about 3 weeks, had so far like 10 different fortress.
I didn't know how to make a military, the invasion took me  by surprise and they masssacred my already thirsty and unhappy(since I didn't  know how to make a pond nor well) 120 dwarfs.

The first fort I recall playing to the bitter end was a desert fort where I hoped to tame giant scorpions. It seemed like it would prosper, but a goblin ambush came. I wasn't good with military back then. It was a slaughter - they pretty much walked through 50-ish dwarves like a hot knife through butter.

I barely remember what I did in my first fort or how it looked, but I know I lost it due to the flooding of my tunnels. I was still new to the game, so very new that I only knew how to gather resources and dig. I learned more about the other features of the game as I naturally played and/or watched/read more tutorials on how everything else worked~

It was the best feeling I ever had, it was then that I realized that not only is it the most complicated game there is, but discovering that its knack makes it the most realistic one too with all the things that can happen.
