Don't mint coins. The smell of freshly minted coins attracts the bookkeeper.
(exactly 5 stacks of coins according to the wiki)

Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

(A few years later and my second gremlin/goblin/whatever siege...)

"Thy rages have come down upon thee, and thy pains have agitated me."

"May they become like dust before the wind, may the angel of the Lord pursue them."

I like my siege execution device. Quite neat, efficient, and clean (once the lava finishes its work, that is).

Notice how they are quivering in the 'last corner' not engulfed.

"Iniquity snares our cunning, but by the light of lights; mine are greater still."

best anti-goblin defence, fortify all the walls on the outside and set up ballistas like so

code:

+ is fortifications
B is ballistas
B
+BBB     B
+B   B   BBB
+B   BBB B
+BBB B   B
+B   B   BBB
+B   BBB B
+BBB B
+B

(Continues to the end of the map with 1 square for a door in the middle)
(all the ballistas are T shaped)

You open fire with all of these simultaneously (or as close as possible)
a wave of bronze ballista bolts come hurtling out at the goblins, turning them to o-so-many goblin kebabs. Only problem is the amount of wood it uses to make the ballistas and bolts

to set up a defence like that tho needs a heavily forested map. And even then u need to make all your barrels out of metal so that your beds and siege machines are the only thing useing the wood

Here is a nice (i think so) guard-the-river fort (moat included!   ;)):

Obviously there is much to be done (such as golden statues, and other goodies) and this layout is mostly for pleasing the eye, I think it will hold in case of siege   ;)
