Fact: Mayday said that there was only one megabeast left in the world as of current in the fort.

Assumption: Mayday went into adventure mode at the most recent date of the fort.

Conjecture: The guard killed the last megabeast in the world.

Not to sound like someone who knows how big the number one is -IE: a smartass- but since a dragon's a megabeast, there is only one megabeast left in the world, and megabeasts don't breed, then the guard killed the dragon.
