I think mandates should be material based still... but instead of something specific such as iron or slade... It could be more general like "rock hammer" or "Metal hammer" "wood hammer" "glass hammer" (which would include any glass).

Shouldn't starvation and dehydration times be determined by the creatures endurance level? It seems a bit un-dwarfy to simply have a fixed timer tick down...

I think you just hit the nail on the head for why we won't see that. We'll probably end up with demands for leather battleaxes or rock hammers.

If I'm reading the update right it should be tomorrow(ish), though I could be hopelessly wrong or toady could run into a nightmarish bug he has to fix before release.
