Question about Archery
« on: January 20, 2012, 06:25:49 pm »

Is archery recommended when it comes to adventure mode?
I realize i will need to train it quite a bit along with a backup melee skill
I also realize i will need arrows and somehow manage to not get killed when switching weapons/reloading

If you guys have any advice for an archer char, i would really appreciate the tips!

Melee weapons far outweigh archery in deadliness. Only quantity makes crossbows any good, and you don't have that q;

Throwing is easier and faster, and you can just throw arrows for about the same effect. But it just feels cheap.

Also if you go archery, beware of the long reload times after each shot. But it seems like you know about that already. Other than that, I don't have much to say about archery other than it goes well with ambusher/sneaking.

Sneaking is your best friend, be sure to level that along with your archery skill as well

Sneak everywhere, and peasant meatshields work to soak up damage while you reload.

Throwing in this version is like having your own arms as a bow/crossbow.

The only thing is, you have to be pressing more buttons to accomplish the feat.

The good thing is, it takes less time for an action and is just as deadly (unmodded) as the above posts say. It also lets you equip a primary melee weapon and shield just in case things get bad.

You can wield a bow in one hand and still attack if you're equipped with a melee weapon. Just Aim

New to the raws but is it possible to increase the damage of bows or arrows to cause knockback or to detach limbs?

Yep. I've done it before to make a gravity gun.

What should be modified, is the arrows/bolts = item_ammo

Yep, those can sever limbs or heads. There are many mods out there that have those kind of things, but particularly because of the weaponry style and power of the bow/crossbow (The velocity of fire).

Archery would be cool if only it would have two actions firing and reloading. I usually get slaughtered while trying to reload.

If it only took two of those, then you'd end up with machine gun elves. Then you'd end up with a bigger problem than reloading.

How are bows and crossbows supposed to work?  I've been carrying a crossbow and some bolts around with me in adventure mode, but when I use the "f" key to fire it, it tells me I have nothing left to fire.  The help menu in the game and the wiki aren't giving any good information either.

(r)emove the arrows/bolts from your backpack first, (w)ear a quiver, and then (p)ut the arrows/bolts in your quiver :D

Huh, I thought I tried that.  Maybe I didn't do it in the proper order or something.
