Interest check: trade game?

This is a market check :P


Well, some of you might know me ... and I like making things >.>


I'm asking if any of you have interest in a Uncharted Waters style forum game: riding a big wooden boat and buying, selling, etc. For example, you buy three hundred boxes of muskets from Barcelona for 3310 x 300, then sell them at San Juan, for 8100 per box.

That is the gist of the game.

If you have played Uncharted Waters Online, you know you can attack (or be attacked by) either regular NPC pirates/ national privateer forces / armed merchants. Also other players, so yes. You don't get funded unless you complete a mission though...

I've always kept an eye out for a good economic game, and I haven't really found one that tickles my fancy.

Okay, basic mechanics are mostly thought out now. Anyone still?


Basically, you are the captain. You can choose to trade from Europe to the Mediterranean to the Americas to the Carribeans and even India and the Orients. You could also be a privateer and sink or capture merchants, pirates, or other players (if you happen to meet them...), but combat is not the focus and might be dull.

Prices will change utilizing some dice. There will be "trade" skills that allow you to buy more of a type of trade good at once. You could, when experienced enough, hire a second-in-command to also use a ship and lug around more trade goods. If you drop enough of a good, its price will crash. Etc, etc.

...The age of sail was 1440ish ~ 1890 ish.
