Magma and visibility
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:36:43 pm »

What will resist magma but still allow an animal to see through it?

For example:
Code: [Select]
=m=
=?=
=a=
===

= is a wall, m -s magma, and what should I put in ?

The reason I need this is because the magma isn't always there.

I believe a glass window will work for this, but I'm not 100% certain that it will be able to resist the magma. If it does it will work though since animals can see through it and it doesn't let liquids through.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

A window would do nicely. The magma won't destroy it since it wouldn't occupy the same tile as the magma.

Okay. The wiki was rather unclear about that.

Would a glass wall work? Glass windows seem a bit... Vulnerable to tantrum Dorfs.

Possibly, but I'm leaning more towards the no side than the yes on this. It would be fairly easy to test if you wanted to find out, simply drop an invade behind a glass wall and see if your dwarves freak out on being near him. If it does then great, else wise I would suggest trying to keep dwarves away from the area and making sure that you don't fill your fort with magma if it is destroyed.

Well, it works. It keeps the magma out, and I put it behind a fortification to prevent building destroyers.

You can't see through Glass walls.

While you can build a fortification to prevent building destroyers, would a magma-safe rock door work? A closed doors doesn't block sights, but can block liquids, I think.

Closed doors do block sight.
