I always imagined Bradford as being a huge dick to all the personnel whenever the Commander Dr. Shen or the German lady weren't around. Cutting off fingers for stealing rations and handing out lashes whenever someone forgot to put the box of Scopes on the Skyranger.

Those power plants? Man-sized hamster wheels. Thousands of them.

And the mechanical arms on that assembly line are actually just real people sticking their arms inside an empty shell.

The workshops are actually just rooms filled with orphans making Niké tennis shoes.

Hey! No wonder everything costs like 10$ to make! Good work Bradford! ;D
I don't understand how this makes him a huge dick.

If people were stealing rations and failed to properly load my equipment on this freaking last ditch attempt to save earth, you can bet punishment would be a lot more severe than minor limb removal or lashings.

And if what it takes to manufacture stuff at pennies is orphan power. Then great. He found some way to tap useless things for huge energy at low cost. He should be rewarded. Again, we're dealing with the fate of the world. Orphans and individuals are irrelevant.

Because trying to stuff Fate/Whatever's engrish and the title of a 17th century book on statecraft into Pokemon syntax tends to make the content incomprehensible.

Though it's been explained that the $10 is an extrapolation. Why would you want to see $10,000,000 every single time. All those extra zeroes are erroneous.
Uh, anyone would totally being a dick if he made people power an underground base via human-hamster power. Apocalypse or no. :p

Why? There are millions of hamsters. They're not particularly edible (unlike guinea pigs) and their ecological niche is easily filled by other creatures.

Even if it took every single hamster on earth to power the base, regardless of how unfeasable that is, it wouldn't change anything and I still don't see how that makes him a huge dick.

Also, I promise you that if hamster power were actually a viable way of producing energy, we'd be using it wily nily. Everyone would be harvesting hamsters for power. Forget secret bases, we'd be running our homes and cars on hamsters. We'd throw out their tired out carcasses at the end of every day and replace them with fresh ones. We'd breed and kill them by the trillions.

Humans are even more disposable than hamsters. Especially in XCOM land.

This thread has taken...

...a truly beautiful turn.

YEAH! THE ALIENS ARE USING UNOBTANIUM TO POWER THEIR EVERYTHING, AND WE'RE USING HUMANS+HAMSTERS.

GO XCOM!

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

You just wait you'll turn on EU tomorrow and there'll be a big fat update and you'll be all "WTF" but then you'll go to the base screen and see the Hamster gene mod and you'll be all "yuss."

Why do you think any of this?'
The Armed Forces have much worse punishments than removing digits and whipping.
That's horribly inefficient.
Ditto.
What the hell do we need tennis shoes for?
And it's not ten dollars, it's ten credits.

Gene mods are in EW.

Except its not funny, just painful. :P

Why did you have to get killed by a sectoid Colonel Hawaiian Punch? Why-y-y.. D:

EDIT: He got struck by a crit from a sectoid that I couldn't see and that never announced itself. And he was one dash away from the Skyranger..

Sectoid or sectopod? The former is surprising and probably due to low health more than the crit, the second...sucks.

You were not mistaken, it was indeed a sectoid who ruined my day on this routine, Classic difficulty, Scout UFO crash landing.

He crit the colonel for the exact amount of health he had left. He had just finished having a shootout with a crowd of mutons and did a fantastic job. Then, as he and the rest of the squad was falling back due to low health all around and the support on the mission, Major Heeb Jeebers, the only one carrying a med kit, getting blown out of cover by a plasma grenade and cut down by the aforementioned mutons, the Colonel was killed by random sectoid nonsense.

So just two deaths on that mission, but that was my last support trooper and one of my favorite Colonels.. :c
