Nah, they already said that they're not going to do Terror from the Deep. The lead Dev wants to keep the game in areas that are familiar, which the deep ocean isn't. Plus, that would require a major rework of the engine to pull off since I doubt people would be quite so accepting of a graphics swap like they did in the original TftD.

I'd prefer if they had the occasional underwater mission if you brought down the UFO over the ocean, as happened to me many times when they attacked Asia.

The only issue is that I cannot think of many, if any, Mythos creature that actually used space ships.

The Mi-Go can fly in the vacuum of space, the Yith are earth bound, Starchildren fly through space, and heck... UFO lights are a sham (they are specifically Yog-Slothoth)

So maybe it wouldn't work... hmmm. Shame since a few of them would be pretty cool.

It remains canon that Elerium explodes upon contact with water.

Seems like the worthy target of a good, hard retconning, if it opens up a new setting for gameplay without sacrificing anything particularly central or meaningful to the game's plot or theme. :P

If all that TFTD crap about alien alloys and elerium remains cannon, then I demand saltwater-based weaponry. I don't know why it never occurred to X-COM in the original game to hose down alien stuff with saltwater in combat.

"Utilizing the compression technology the Aliens use to stabilize their high-density alloys, we've managed to create a specialized ammunition for anti-materiel purposes: 1 gallon of seawater compressed into a .50 caliber shell, bursting on impact. 1 gallon of water delivered this way is more effective than 100 gallons dumped. With additional research, we will soon have a weapon suitable for utilizing such projectiles."

You could argue that intact alien equipment shields the elerium inside from the water, and that it only causes explosions in the case of a UFO that's been blown open.

In TFTD, they explain that Alien Alloys are also useless, because they dissolve in salt water.

Which is the BS excuse for not being able to use the piles of the stuff X-COM accumulated from the Sectoid war, which is also why saltwater based weaponry would have been awesome. Not sure if it works that way in XCOM, though.
