Though if they're jumping out of UFOs, and thus have one over your men and Skyranger, why don't they just blast your dudes from orbit? :P

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

The poison spit becomes a non-issue in titan armor, since it's immune to poison.  What I don't get, though, is that the higher-tech armors such as Psi, Ghost, and Archangel *don't* have the poison-filtration.

One question:  Will the pre-order ability to color your soldiers' armor be released as DLC, do you think?  I missed the pre-order by a couple days and was wondering why I couldn't color my soldiers' armor like everyone in the videos until I realized it was a pre-order bonus >.<

Sooner or later (if not already) someone will manage to unlock it by "other means".

Also Thin Man has the best interogation cutscene in the game.

I'm assuming balance mainly. There is almost no reason to not use ghost and archangel for every mission that won't be swarming with thin men (so anything that isn't a target escort/bomb defusing mission).  I liked using titan on normal but on classic I just shoved it on rookies that I was sending out to scout. Even so, I eventually figured that ghost was better for that.

I assume the pre-order bonus will, it usually does with games. It does wear thin pretty quickly though, especially on classic as soldiers die so damn fast. Speaking of which...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Classic ironman done. I actually failed the final mission the first time because I forgot to inspire my troops before I went into the final room and it just gave me the option to restart the mission. Which is cool, because I would have thrown my desk at something if I had to go through the entire game again.

Also, yes, thin men cutscene is best cutscene.

So, I made a shiv after another shiv got destroyed, and it's invisible and can't be used. :( Apparently I'm not the only person with this problem, and some have shown up with no weapons as well. Anyone know a fix?

Because your not in range. The UFOs never EVER indicated that kind of firing range.

Unless we take the cinematic before the first terror mission (where plasma keeps raining down) and several maps that sport vehicles and ground smeared in what appears to be plasma.

Also i'd love a officer unlock that gives the player the ability to take a S.H.I.V. or two above the 6 man limit.
They act as nice mobile cover but most of the time people would rather take another soldier instead, a shiv only slot would give them more utility in your average playthrough.

It isn't, they show you what they are.

They are containment Bombs so to speak.

The aliens aren't ever really in a situation where it's worthwhile to do all that work.  Are they gonna carpet-bomb their abduction site?  Their base?

I think the original X-COM worked best on the "Why don't they just fuck us up, they're clearly capable of it?" front.  I got the sense that Earth was the alien Vietnam (Or Pandora from Avatar), they expected a quick harvest, got caught completely by surprise as XCOM started using their technology against them, and by the time they'd gotten their shit together it was too late.

yeah until really late on you don't even start getting a sense that they are equipped for a proper battle.  Just scattered mutons and the occasional disc (with a contingent of repair drones so really a cyberdisk could be their form of engineer)  and even then there is still the overlying idea of 'they really want something here'  maybe earth is the last habitable planet in hundreds of years of space-flight and if they don't capture it the fleet will starve to death?

The ending of the game explains why they were there, and what their goal was.

Well that and technological supperiority could only get them so far. Sure their UFOs were made of a metal much stronger then ours, but it wasn't strong enough to ignore missles. As well "how advanced" they are is also up to question along with how many resources they had to start with (It is strongly suggested the Aliens lacked the resources to take over the earth and had to actually harvest food and resources from earth)

As well a lot of what the Aliens sent against you were mass produced. The Xcom shows what earth could do if they put everything they could into one single unit. The Aliens however used mass produced soldiers and aliens to wage their war.

The Aliens would have eventually won even with the Xcom's interference if you didn't take extra steps going above and beyond what could have been expected.

Why earth loses when the Xcom is gone makes sense as well. Without the consolidation of technology and resources from around the globe... no country could win. Not even a collection of single countries.

The ending was pretty terrible honestly, but hey... not really playing this game for the story. :P

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I would have loved it if there was a completely different ending for impossible difficulty. Instead of all that mystic crap, have the Ethereals talk shit to you the whole way through the final level. Like right from the get go...

"The worthless scum have arrived to be putrefied by our greater intellect."

Then insulting you all the way through.

"How impressive. You killed a Sectoid. Your bulbous mass made that quite the accomplishment. Pathetic creature."

It would be so goddamned satisfying to slaughter them at the end after that.

oh then I have even more reason to ensure this classic ironman run makes it all the way to the end.
