I wanna Roc!
« on: January 01, 2012, 04:16:15 pm »

Well actually, no I don't, I just killed my 3rd one and they take forever to haul to my refuse pile. On the plus side, they kill some of my outside animals which keeps the population in check. I was hoping for more variety from my megabeasts though. I suppose it's better than something that rots all my dwarves' limbs off.

I've not found a Roc yet. Glad too, ah the above ground fort. How fliers kill me so.

Aren't rocs, like, the only megabeasts other than dragons that you can get to breed?

I'd stop killing them and start trapping them, if I were you. An army of baby rocs!

Socks inspire the same sort of emotions in dwarfs that Helen of Troy inspired in the Achaean Greeks. Although it is said that Helen's face launched a thousand ships, socks have surely launched a million ultimately-fatal Store Owned Item tasks.

Eh, if they can't be trained then what's the point? I'd rather kill them and make stuff out of their bones.

Even better, dragons take to long to grow up. A young one could be killed with a good sword-throw, easly. Rocs grow up faster, and they fly. Might want to get some giant eagles, tho, to be the meat of your air force: a wounded roc is a worthless roc. A eagle can be killed and cooked without much loss.

Unfortunately we won't get trainable Rocs till the Dungeon Master is no longer glitched. Although I believe it's considered acceptable to change the tag from [PET_EXOTIC] to [PET] in the raws to make them trainable by animal trainers.

Even if you can't train them, you can still capture and breed them.  Then you can have them chained out front AND kill them to make stuff out of their bones. ;)

Oh, and I guess i should use my three wooden cages (from buying aminals from the elves) to try and capture the giant eagle at my current fortress ...

I can't wait until you can have pets as an adventurer. Forming a band of giant eagle riding thieves would be great.

Dwarves passing by get good thoughts from the mist of water and exploding felines.
Anyone of the equivalent to the royal bloodline in a nomadic group would have a sun tattooed on their hand, or a scrotum on their forehead (it's a little-known fact that fraternities are based off of long-forgotten tribes).

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).
