See, on the BATTLESCAPE, all battles take place. Every unit has a bunch of stats. Some, like
Psionic Strength CANDY TOLERANCE and
Psionic Skill CANDY MAKING will be hidden until we gain access to
Psionic Facilities CANDY FACILITIES. Here is a summary of stats that we know.
TIME UNITS (TUs) represent the amount of actions a unit can do in a turn. Generally the more you have, the better. What is odd it that nearly every weapon uses a percentage of maximum TUs instead of a flat amount, whereas moving is always a flat amount.
STAMINA tells you how much energy the unit has. Every time it moves, the unit loses stamina proportionate to the distance traveled. It regenerates slowly, and if you force a unit to expend all its TUs moving it across the map, it will tire out and be unable to move once its Stamina reaches 0.
HEALTH is pretty simple. If you get it to 0, the owner of that recently removed health will die. When creatures are injured, they also take a small amount of stun damage. This means regular weapons can knock out aliens as well. FATAL WOUNDS is an extra stat that appears when wounded. For every Fatal Wound you possess, the unit will lose one point of HP at the start of it's turn. Aliens cannot take these unless
Mind-controlled INTOXICATED WITH CANDY. Which is unfair. To remove them, you need Medi-kits. Also, depending on where you are hit, certain modififers are added onto other stats. Your accuracy always drecreases, even more so when shot in the head or arms. Torso shots decreases Stamina, and eg shots decrease TUs.
BRAVERY has no effect until a unit's MORALE drops below 50. This is lowered by allies dying and being injured. Once below 50, Bravery is used to calculate a chance on whether or not the unit PANICS or GOES BERSERK. Panicing causes the unit to drop whatever is in their hands and run
to the nearest enemy in a random direction. This isn't too bad unless they run in circles after dropping a grenade. Going Berserk means the unit will fire
at the nearest X-COM Soldier in random directions. Deadly if the berserking unit has explosives.
REACTIONS is iffy. Basically, the higher this is, the more of a chance you have of shooting an enemy unit during the enemy turn. You need to have enough TUs left over in order to do that though.
FIRING ACCURACY is exactly what it sounds like.
THROWING ACCURACY is exactly what it sounds like, but doesn't matter much, as you'll only miss by one or two squares usually.
STRENGTH tells you how much a unit can carry. If it carries too much, it becomes encumbered and loses TUs at the start of every turn. Avoid this by only loading everything on guys with 35 or better Strength.
Stats increase whenever a unit does something called a primary action. The exact definition of one is unknown, but hitting an enemy is always counted. Those of you who have no stat increases or are still rookies are simply not hitting anything or dying and getting cloned.
