Feeling your internal monologue run wild, you turn to the panoramic view windows. They were shuttered while travelling in the warp due to the potential risks, but are now as clear as the soul of the faithful. Stars stretch to infinity, with the galactic plane splashed across at an impractical angle. You're somewhere in the second system of the voyage, but the local star must be on the other side of the ship, and apart from some faint nebula there aren't any other celestial bodies or starships visible. From the edges of the view you can spot various protrusions from the hull, antennas and weapons batteries and other vital systems. The bulk of the ship must stretch for kilometres in each direction.
Having examined the starfield to the fullest extent, you find the nearest noble who is not enraptured by one of the Lord General's stories. She appears to be dancing in a dreamy fashion to the orchestral music floating through the ship.
Commissar Halian"Sorry to bother you, my lady, but I have spent this voyage at the side of my Lord General, and though he is a gracious host I cannot abide by this interminable politicking and chatter surrounding him. Do you have any recommendations for shipboard entertainment outside of this hall?"
Party Attendee"Of course, I understand. Commissar, is it? I hardly know why I'm aboard myself... There are numerous luxury facilities aboard, of course. This section serves only the planetary nobility and is quite small. Few think to the countless poor souls below, they tend to be on a pilgrimage or some other journey, hoping the ship docks at a name they can recognise... I imagine they hope for Holy Terra, but I can't see that happening soon.
"Where was I? Oh, entertainment, distractions, so forth? There are many services that are sworn by, but I doubt a figure of your office would find pleasure or honour in them. On the more reputable side there are holovid showings, live theatre, relaxing baths and massages, gymnasiums, and the Emperor's chapels, most importantly. I think I heard mention of a live-fire display as we pass through this system, but I don't think it will be very interesting."
